Ps2 XS games to release RED STAR and Raiden III

    Pillaged from Hooligans
    http://www.gamespot.com/news/6151642.html

awesome news for anyone in the know.

Some of you may remember RED STAR as a hopefull title that was to be released by Acclaim (of all people) in late 2004. The title was unfortunately canned when Acclaim went bankrupt in september of 2004. . .leaving the game's well crafted demos to stagnate into obscurity.

but anyways. . .both games should come to us at low prices.
With Raiden III carrying a budget price.

EDIT: Whoops. . .better move this to insert coin

This is cool news. Red Star has been lookin' good for some time now, and the gameplay video I just watched of mysterious Raiden III makes it out to be a snazzy one. I'm tempted to fire up some good ol' Jaguar Raiden.

Yeah, I have this game on my Japanese PS2. It's a decent polygon upgrade but the damn ship moves to slow.

Are there no speed upgrades in-game?

^ Well shit. Does that seriously impact the game? Are most kills spawned simply from the inability to move out of the way fast enough?

This talk of shmups reminds me, anyone familiar with R-Type Final? There's a copy for sale cheap at the local Blockbuster, and I'm seriously considering it.

It's good with over 100 ships to unlock (I'm not kidding).

The major problem with Final is that there's huge slowdowns in the game (Stage 3 is the worse).

Raiden III is a good game, but not as great as Raiden I or II. But heck for a cheap price I'll take it. I just hope they are able to release more shooters for the PS2.

'93 in ye olde arcades. I don't remember seeing it back then, but later became wise to it through the ol' PSX Raiden Project. It's a cool, exciting shooter.

Indeed, Raiden II is the shit! Raiden Project was one of the games I picked on the US PS launch. Ah the memories... Also, if you got a modded or japanese PS/PS2 make sure you pickup Raiden DX. It' basically a remixed Raiden II.

True shmuping involves weaving through the spaces between bullets more than trying to manuver around the bullet storm entirely.

    As for R-type Final. . .
It's decent, but not even half the game that Gradius V is.
The unlockables are nice enough, but even then. . .the gameplay is a bit spotty & slow.
But if it's cheap, go for it.

I'll be buying both of these, so long as they don't get the Mobile Light Force treatment. Xs has been sort of hit-and-miss with their releases, so I hope these two are done right.
