    Default I miss arcades.....

I'm not talking about the Dave and Busters crap or the card swipe places.....I'm talking about the good ol fashioned token places.....Nerd central.....not a female in sight, unless shes with her boyfriend.......

There used to be a chain of arcades locally that all closed down, but one....Its still kicking...I walked in there and the memories of Street Fighter 2 came crashing into me like a Dragon Punch.....

Nothing will ever compare to beating someone who is standing next to you....Xbox live victories are hollow.....To actually make someone lose their money and walk away in shame was priceless.....

I miss the 90s....Sega in their prime.....Arcades in their prime.....No Sony, no Microsoft, every other game coming out wasnt a FPS....

I envy the younger crowd because it would have been insane to grow up with the gaming tech today, but, I pity you because you will never know the pure awesomeness of Sega and arcades in the prime......

They actually just opened a NEW arcade close by.... It's okay.. It's mostly (child gambling) for tickets, to get prizes... But there were a few gems inside for even me to enjoy....

Terminator Salvation Arcade - Nice large gun and Nice HD screen

H2Overdrive (I guess that's Hydro Thunder 2??) I forgot what it was like to use a wheel at the arcade that pulled against you! That was nice. Also great HD screens!

They also had Guitar Hero Arcade (kind of a silly idea in the first place) Best part is that they have nice well made heavy guitars! But you couldn't do left-handed mode on the arcade version!!! WTF!!! They've had left handed/southpaw mode since the very first Guitar Hero!!! But of course no "lefties" go to the arcade anyways!!

I really miss my arcades. When I was growing up we had 3 arcades, and the boardwalk, now we have 1/2.Most of the games are DDR/bad racing games, we had Initial D machines, but they never fixed them when they broke. Now I have to drive all the way Casselberry just to play any good arcade games.

Don't worry, arcades will make a comeback whenever Sega develops a virual reality machine.

Arcades were pointless anyway. Why leave your house to play a video game when you can play a video game in your house?

Back in the day arcades had the best graphics, sound, etc.You got an experience that you couldn't get at home. For the most part consoles have taken a lot of the thunder from arcade games, but there are still somethings arcades have over consoles.A good example.

Yes I know but most arcade games back then were rigged like X-Men, Ninja Turtles, Simpsons etc. Game developers made all these games impossible so people would mindlessly spend quarters on these rigged games. I think games like those are the biggest reason why arcades got less popular over the years.

I'll admit I was blown away by the fact I could play my favorite games at home, but it was never the same.

The original idea of arcades stemmed from the fact that there was no easy way to distribute a multitude of games. And then all of a sudden, you had arcades EVERYWHERE, an overwhelming amount, not to mention damn near dozens of home consoles available for purchase. Things got out of hand, and eventually crashed. Now that we are at a point where home hardware technology is easily besting arcade technology, the need for arcades has diminished down to nothing more than nostalgia; everyone has games in their home, that is where it is centralized, so arcades are going to fade away more and more (in this country anyways.) until there is nothing left.

It's sad, but that is just the path we have gone down. Arcades are uneconomical, and for half the price of a beaten up cabinet, you can get yourself a modern console capable of so much, much, much more.

That being said, fuck all of that logic. I have a Neo Geo cab, and I couldn't be happier with it. Once I get a Pac-Man, life will be complete. But for the average consumer, these items do nothing but to eat up real-estate. Arcade owners, the ones who collect exclusively for arcade hardware such as the Naomi, MVS, and Atomiswave, are some of the most hardcore folks around, and they shell out thousands of dollars for both hardware and software. It's really not for everyone, but with some, arcade is still alive and well. (Hell, they are still producing software for Naomi, if that tells you anything.)

I do love arcades, but they are undoubtedly going the way of the dodo. It's a shame, but they have outlived their usefulness in many ways I suppose.

I think the industry just needs something big that will be too expensive to market at home, so people will have to go out to try it.What that could be I have no idea.To Phosis is it hard to upkeep a NeoGeo, I have been itching to get one for years now.
