Default Super Mario Bros... for Genesis

While I was browsing DevSter's website, I found that Mairtrus made a port of Super Mario Bros. on the Genesis. He used an automated ASM translator to port most of the code, about 75% of it, and added an emulator for the NES's hardware functions. It even has sound!

No, nothing at all. Keep waiting for the video.

You could however download the rom seen at the DevSter Forum and try it out in
Fusion. But that would be illegal ; )

    Nice, Genesis does what Nintendoes...

Joking aside this is awesome! How long until we could get a full emulator up and running? or only conversion w/ minor coding like this one?

That is damned awesome! If only it worked on real hardware, I'd have it repro'd in a heart beat!

a full NES emulator that runs on the Mega Drive? This would be unspeakably awesome,
this would be godlike. Having three consoles combined in one (not counting the CD and
32X) would be the top achievement of all time.

By the looks of the structure, you'd have to run a program to convert the ASM code, but outside of that the sound, and I/O are emulated here.

    Very nice
I think I discovered a little hit detection problem. If you jump into a bullet bill while shooting fireballs it will die. You can go as low as Mario's face and it won't hit you.

Yes, but what about a full emulator? Imagine a cart with a lock-on slot. The cart runs the
emulator, the lock-on slot accepts NES carts.

I'd shit my pants to be able to play 2 player River City Ransom on the Genesis.

Very cool! Only issues I have are that the color black is a gray tone for some reason, and the A and B buttons are "swapped", as in they correspond to the Genesis layout of "A-B" as opposed to the NES layout, which goes "B-A", which would makes the game a bit confusing considering it goes against rote behavior due to years of playing platformers with the run-jump layout, unless you reconfigure the controls in an emulator.

It's a simple error, and would likely be corrected by the author if brought to his attention, and by no means does it make this port overall any less cool!

On a side note, the world -1 glitch is in there, but instead of taking you to the water level, you just get a black freeze...

Speaking of hit detection problems, in World 2-3, I was standing on the bridge and a Cheep Cheep killed me from underneath. Yet I've managed to stomp a Cheep Cheep from very unusual angles...

And like MetalWario said, the game crashes when trying to access World -1.
