    -Super Monaco GP
-Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP II
    -OutRun 2019
    -Bio Hazard Battle
    -Top Gear 2
    -Castlevania Bloodlines
    -Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
    -Sonic Spinball

I've got codes for a couple of your games...

    -Castlevania Bloodlines and Sonic Spinball:

    EAAT-AY1T
Lets you play some "Non" Japanese carts on your Japanese Mega Drive.

All that code does is change the region/country ID letter in the Genesis ROM header. The only problem is that not many games use that ID letter to determine the region, so that code will only work on some games. Give it a try on your other carts and let me know which ones it works on.

    EDIT:
I forgot to mention that the code above will only work if you have a Japan "NTSC" system. I don't think it will work on a Japan/Hong Kong "PAL" system. Let me know which system you have.

My MegaDrive is an NTSC model. I'm not home now, but when I have an opportunity to get to my MegaDrive, I'll test that code out. Damn, I sure hope Virtua Racing and Thunder Force IV will work with that.

By the way, is there a Master Code needed, or can I just input that code straight into the Game Genie and load the game? Now, this may be a stupid question, but I assume I need to have the Game Genie turned on, right?

EDIT: All right, I've tried all my region-locked cartridges on my MegaDrive using that cheat. Here's the result:

    Working:

    -Sonic Spinball
    -OutRun 2019
-Sonic 3 without locking onto Sonic & Knuckles(I knew this one was region-locked, so I just tested it out of curiosity)
    -Castlevania Bloodlines
-Sub Terrania(forgot to mention this one before)

    Not working:

-Ayrton Senna's Super Monaco GP II
-Virtua Racing(REALLY bummed that this doesn't work)
    -Bio Hazard Battle
    -Super Monaco GP
    -Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine
    -Top Gear 2
-Thunder Force IV(I'm REALLY bummed by this one too)

That's 5 games out of 12; an approximately 42% success rate. Someone needs to work out region bypass codes for the 7 games that don't work.

Ace, I'm pretty good at making regional bypass codes, so I'm sure we can get your carts up and running. I'll get to that in a minute. But first, I need to know if Outrun 2019 or Sub Terrania needed master codes? I'm working on a regional lockout bypass doc and that info will help.

You asked about master codes and if the Game Genie needed to be turned on. As you may know, if you have a game that needs a master code, you can get around having to use the master code by just leaving the Game Genie switched OFF until the game just starts (usually the "SEGA" screen), and then switch the Game Genie ON. This little "trick" WON'T work when you're using regional bypass codes. So if you're using a regional bypass code and you also need a master code, you must enter the master code, and you must leave the GG turned on.

Just for the record, a "Master Code" bypasses the checksum routine.

Okay, now on to the regional lockout bypass codes...

The games that the code didn't work on will need to have individual bypass codes made for each game.

I'm guessing (wasn't too hard to figure out) that the codes you want the most would be for Virtua Racing and Thunder Force IV. I've done a LOT of work on Thunder Force IV regional bypass codes, but it was all for the US Genesis console. I found that you need a total of 4 GG codes to get Thunder Force IV to run perfectly throughout the entire game. It shouldn't take me too long to make new codes for the Japanese MD. As for Virtua Racing, I'll have to make that code from scratch.

Here's a link to my Regional Lockout Bypass doc...

    http://www.angelfire.com/games2/code...alBypassGG.txt

I have a newer version ready, but haven't uploaded it yet.

I've got the new Lightening Force codes made...

    Lightening Force...

    AACT-AA4W
Lets you play the US cartridge on a Japanese Mega Drive.

    AABT-AA5J
Master code (use to get rid of blank screen on start-up).

    ===========================

I tested the codes for awhile and didn't have any problems, but if you find that the game freezes when you get a 1-up, or when you beat a boss, let me know and I'll figure out codes to fix that problem.

Let me know if the new Lightening Force codes work, and let me know about Outrun 2019 and Sub Terrania (if they needed master codes).

    Tony.

Just tested the codes for Thunder Force IV. While it doesn't crash when getting a 1-Up by the score, the game does crash during boss fights and in the underwater section of Stage 1(Strite) - and I did pick up the 1-Up. Maybe something from your code to play the Japanese Thunder Force IV on a Genesis would be of some use? This: http://www.sega-16.com/forum/showpos...3&postcount=98

As for OutRun 2019 and Sub-Terrania, neither needed Master Codes. They run just fine with the code you first told me to try.

EDIT: Just tried the codes. Did no good whatsoever.

EDIT 2: Turning off the Game Genie after choosing the Stage order seems to work as a "half fix." If you refuse to continue or run out of Continues, it'll spew out a region code error. I guess this means the Game Genie needs to be turned back on when refusing to continue or run out of Continues?

Okay, I *think* I got the other 2 Lightening Force codes figured out, but I didn't have time to test them. Let me know if they work...

    AKRA-AA8N +
    AK6A-AA34

So you'll need to use all 4 codes. Remember, these newest codes haven't been tested yet, so no guarantees.

Excellent work, Tony! Those 2 new codes have fixed the crash with the Bosses and the 1-Up on Strite. Thanks!

Next up: Virtua Racing. That and Thunder Force IV are on my priority list to be played on my MegaDrive.

Glad to hear the codes worked.

I just finished the Virtua Racing code...

    Virtua Racing

    RYBA-E61G
Lets you play the US cartridge on a Japanese Mega Drive.

It worked fine on my emulator, but let me know if it works okay on your hardware.

The Thunder Force IV codes will be next.

Tony, you don't know of any region bypass codes for Aah-Harimanada (the sumo game) or the Doreighmon game do you? I own both carts but they are Japanese and won't work on my American Genesis and it is killing me inside to not be able to play them. If you could help me with this it would be supremely awesome.

Dirt Ball Gamer, I made those codes for you in another post (in the "Genesis Does" section), but you must have missed it. Anyways, here they are...

    Aah! Harimanada (J)...

    B3CT-AA64
Lets you play the Japanese cartridge on a US Genesis console.

    =================================

Doraemon - Yume Dorobouto 7 Nin No Gozansu (J)...

    A35T-AA6W
Lets you play the Japanese cartridge on a US Genesis console.

    CV5T-AA84
Master code (must use with code above).

Let me know if they work on your hardware.

Wow, dude, you went BEYOND the call of duty by posting this! The only version of Thunder Force IV that I own is the US Lightening Force one. Still useful for anyone who has a European version of Thunder Force IV and wants to play it on their Japanese MegaDrive.

Tony, thanks a ton man that's awesome, yeah I must have missed it the first time, sorry about that. I'm about to go and try them.
EDIT: Yep, they both worked like a charm. The sumo game is pretty fun, my first try just button mashing I beat like 10 straight opponents. Doraemon I am still getting used to, but it seems pretty good.

Do any Game Genie codes exist (for any game) that screw up the sprites and or backgrounds and have no other effects on games?

I seem to remember a ton of GG codes for Super Mario Bros that only mess up sprites and backgrounds. Here are some GG codes for SMB that I made a looong time ago (not sure what you're looking for)...
