The analog support was really half-assed, even on the Dreamcast port.
Not to get too wildly off topic but I too remember the drop in review scores and or general complaints with Tomb Raider was that every game after the first didn't innovate or change dramatically from the previous entries. Honestly, I don't see this as an issue as I enjoyed TR2 (spontaneous combustion) and The Last Revelation on Dreamcast also. Angel of Darkness was significantly worse than the main entries prior and sadly really added fuel to the fire even if it was of a different kind.

Ok no surprise, I did get my memories crossed of the GDRI posted interview Baron linked and the T's Music interview from GameGo.
I've tracked down the T's Music interview and while they did do the soundtrack for Lords of Thunder, there is no mention of who programmed the Sega-CD port.

It is notable that T's Music also did the soundtrack for Final Fight CD.
Also, Tomoyuki Hamada references Submarine Attack as their first contract and seemingly isn't aware that the game was released.

Excellent video. I'm glad that I'm not the only one who doesn't care for Burning Rangers.

Ultimate Mortal Kombat for the Saturn is the best IMHO.

Joe, RE Code Veronica was a phenomenal game at it's time, and it has aged quite well. I bought it at launch and its one of my favorite Dreamcast games. Just be ready for a weird twist near the end. Some people in the game aren't who they seem to be.

    Awesome episode!
Thoughts as I watched the episode:

    1. I totally agree on mortal kombat. I much prefer MK1 on genesis. I have MK2 on 32x, and I think it sucks.

    2. Ughh, I can't believe saturn doom is slower than 32x doom. Especially considering the similar and weaker hardware. I'll just stick to playing the PC version on my dinosaur laptop.

Here's two games that I had to give a second chance:

Combat cars: I beat it for SEGA-16's "beat all the genesis games" thing. I tried it when I first purchased it a few years ago, and thought it kind of sucked. I really hated all top down racers. Trying again recently I really liked it, and played it to completion. I just had to give it another chance. I'd be willing to try out other top down racers now.

The Ooze: I first tried it about 10 years ago, and put it down immediately. I tried it again last year and fell in love with it. Like combat cars, I beat it for our beat all the genesis games thread. It's a balls to the wall tough game with 3 lives, no continues, and tons of 1 hit deaths. It just made a bad first impression on me with it's frustration level. Maybe feature it in a future frustrating games episode?

I went more in-depth on the ooze in said thread.

Joe, you idiot! If you just reconfigured FF7 and played it correctly like all the commenters you'd realize it's the greatest game ever made!

Seriously though great episode. Mortal Kombat is one of those games that I loved as a kid, but now the only one I can stomach is UMK3. Was it just youtube, or does Legend of Kage's scrolling look choppy?

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.

Awesome episode, but what's up with the Google Translate-style German in the YouTube comments?

By the by, I always thought there was nothing wrong with how Bonk's Adventure played, but then again, I played the Amiga port the most (using a 3 button Genesis controller so you actually had a jump button), maybe this one saw a few fixes in the control department.

With Bonk, you just get used to the turbo switching. If memory serves, they made it much easier to climb in the second game.

MK II: Never had a complaint, difficulty, block button position, and all.

FF7: Well, nerds will be nerds.

Doom 128 was horrible; it was way too bright!

I thought I was the only person on the planet that who thought that FF VII was vastly overrated. I've never got it, I guess... and I dig Final Fantasy.

I've played through FF7 a few times over the years and really enjoyed it at one time. Still, I don't see it as the best game ever programmed or anything and I honestly don't know how slow the pace of the combat is without the Active Time Battle feature. (I've used that mode exclusively since FFIV on SNES.) Don't let the mindless zealots get you down Joe, I may like the game, but I can see that the game takes a long while to get going compared to many RPGs. I still prefer FFVI & FFIV myself.

I never found Burning Rangers to be that exciting when I played it either. I felt like it was a short tech demo with potential, but I'm glad that people enjoy it.

100k subscribers ? Is this the same little Sack I used to watch all these years ago when it was was barely hitting 500 views per episode ? Congrats Joe and Dave - you guys definitely do deserve it.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

Proof that quality can get you there...

Who am I kidding, it's all about Dave! You could put Dave in from of a camera doing nothing and it would get a million subscribers.

Even with ATB, it's a bit slow in FF7, because they felt the need to have showy animations. They look pretty cool at first but then they get old. FF8 added a quick battle feature that reduces the length of animations.
