    Default Twin Cobra

Talk about shmups to any gamer, and one company is sure to come up: Toaplan. It's been around forever and has created some of the best games in the genre, which have virtually all found a home on one console or another. Twin Cobra arrived on the Genesis in 1991, and while it didn't set the world on fire, it was a pretty decent play. We've a full review on it, so be sure to check it out!

I've always thought of this game as incredibly average, and that's why I've never bothered to pick it up. Maybe I'll get the PC Engine version, but even still the game looks like an average Toaplan romp to me, and pretty much all Toaplan games are more or less the same (but Toaplan games can be pretty fun). There are a few that stand out like Truxton (especially on the PC Engine).

The Genesis port was done by a company called GRC (Graphic Research Co., Ltd.).

They seem to have had pretty good musicians. Socket, Battle Mania 1 and 2, etc. Too bad something like Twin Cobra can't have good music and instead must be copied from the arcade.

I only see Treco in the credits, and not that.

I need more proof than wikipedia.

It's not Wikipedia. It's my own wiki featuring my own research, including, but not limited, to intensive credits comparison (there's a link to a text file of GRC credits).

Alright, but I wish there was another person who can confirm this.

Yep. Twin Cobra was just another average shooter, reminiscant or raiden-trad and other titles of similar genre. While I remember picking this game up circa 1992, nothing about it really stands out from memory other than the fact it's really annoying that the action comes to a dead stop once you die (a large triangle blanks out the screen) then starts back up again. This acts as a demotivator. Unfortunately, Twin Cobra proved to be too tough for my blood as I finally used a cheat code and beat the game....

The Japanese have come to the same conclusion:

    Sadly I can't read it.

If you can confirm they did it, then they were the ones who ported it then.

Not bad. But the last level can get pretty annoying, especially the last boss.

Try not to get hit during the last level, because if you lose near the end...your gonna have hard with the final boss.

Also, some of the bosses are placed too close to your ship, so avoiding their shots is a pain in the dick.

I guess Im the only guy who loves this game lol

I never played it as a kid but my friend did have Tiger Heli on NES which this is a sequel too. I started playing Twin Cobra like 2 weeks ago and it has been pretty awesome so far. I beat it on the two easiest difficulties which were not bad at all. Actually the only hard parts are the bosses and the only reason theyre hard is because the changed aspect ratio means there isnt enough room to fight some of them, notably 5,8 and 9. Maybe the harder difficulty settings will make me hate the game one day but after two clears I feel safe in saying this game is pretty awesome. I especially love the "Break a leg" song that plays in levels 1 and 6. I'd score this as an 8/10. The only real issue is you have to have a stomach for punishment. I liked the Sega-16 review, much better than another site's review I read where the author just complained it wasnt as good as Raiden the whole time lol

Nah, You're not the only one who loves it.

Brutal with the aspect ratio change but that's sort of what makes it stand out. Congrats on clearing it even on the easier difficulties! The Genesis/MD version definitely doesn't mess around.

And Break a Leg is badass.

You stuck with blue throughout, right?

The game is incredible and the MD version as a secret weapon that's the best AI ever seen in a shooter. It's like the AI knows where you're going to fly too. It's incredible and only in the MD version
Sadly based on gfx and sound alone, many will say the PC Eng version is superior
    Panzer Dragoon Zwei is
one of the best 3D shooting games available
    Presented for your pleasure
