So young and still so much to give. I knew he was ill, I mean with how much passion he had for the company it had to be serious for him to step down as CEO... but still was shocked and sadden deeply by the news.

This news saddens me to no end. It was obvious after his resignation in August that this moment would be coming sooner rather than later, but it's still shocking and a major downer. It feels like the world has lost one of its last true visionaries, certainly the IT world. It's a shitty way to wake up this morning.

Again, you just love to hate things because you feel good hating things. Pixar over the past decade is to 3D movies as Disney was to 2D animation in the 90s (though personally I find Pixar's movies are better, but that's just me). They have made absolutely excellent movies and have further shown how washed up the Disney Company is these days and has been over the past decade.

I'm just elitist that way
What's an Apple 512? ... Do you mean the Macintosh 512k?

Sad day indeed. Man was an inspiration to me. Never like apple's bullshit marketing much but I can't say I'm unhappy with my macbook.

It's always sad to see the loss of life, so for that, RIP. Also, how did this derail into bashing Pixar? Srsly?

You're talking out of your ass again Clessy, be careful here. Disney's crappy management and poor planning is the reason there WERE no traditional animated Disney movies for a long time.

John Lasseter (the head of Pixar) is a huge traditional animation buff, and big fan of Miyazaki's work (Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, etc). After Disney bought Pixar, Lasseter was instrumental in bringing traditional animation back. Plus because of John Lasseter and the work he did with Pixar, it's the reason we got another animated film, The Princess and the Frog. In my opinion, Pixar has done more for animation in general, including traditional animation, in the last decades than the original company the popularized it, Disney. I won't go into it much more, but there's a lot of documentation about Disney's poor treatment of animators in the late 90's forward until Lasseter made it a focus again.

As for Mr. Jobs, he did some amazing stuff and revolutionized computing and other fields in a lot of different ways. The world has lost an icon, but hopefully they can learn from him and continue to innovate.

All Im saying is I dearly miss traditional Disney animation and I feel that the wave of popularity caused by Pixar made it much easier for Disney to dismiss its animations. I dont know the history I just know how It felt.

I too mourn the loss of classic Disney Animated TV shows and movies from the 90s and back, and at first glance it really does seem that Pixar stole the thunder when it came to animation as it was so revolutionary at the time. Now, it's kind of become very generic when Dreamworks Studios and co. jumped on the bandwagon, and even Disney themselves choosing to go 3D outside of Pixar. Look at Tangled, Bolt, Chicken Little, etc. and now we simply don't get anything that's not Miyazaki or the lone exception of Princess and the Frog (Which wasn't all that special.)

Can't really feel sad for this man, cause other than knowing he made the ipod touch, I know NOTHING else of this man.
