aside from the Dr Mario/Tetris/Bust a move stuff. Not too much localized SNES puzzlers either. At least not enough to say it is some sort of crazy domination. I'm telling you. the ps2 was great for puzzle games. I was a happy monkey in those days.

Add to G/MD = Shanghai 2, Mega Bomberman, Pengo, Scrabble (yes, debatable). Snake Rattle & Roll, Marble Madness too.
Incidentally Puyo Puyo 2 is generally regarded better on SNES--another mode, difficulty level, or something along those lines.

Puyo Puyo 2 SNES later got a remix version with more stuff. I don't know if that content was previously available elsewhere, or has been ported to other systems since.

I said nothing about US only releases, I play games from all regions (and own games from all regions)

Sure most of my favourites were Japan only, but still, even with only US releases I can think of -

Panel De Pon (Tetris Attack in the west) was great
    Breakthru was great
    Pieces was great
    Pushover was pretty good
SNES got its own Puyo games
    Troddlers was cool
    Super Loopz was pretty entertaining
    Yoshi's Cookie

Those on top of the aforementioned -

    Tetris
    Bust A Move
    Dr Mario

    All at least fairly good.

Zoop (mentioned earlier) is on both (I don't like it much to be honest), as was Lemmings (awesome)

If you count Bomberman as a puzzler then there were loads of them too.

I think you could very realistically include Capcom's Goof Troop as a puzzler too, there are action elements, but most of the gameplay is logic puzzles using blocks an items.

I'd imagine if I had more experience with SNES I could add a decent amount to this list, and if we were including Japanese only games I could possibly already double it.

PS1 and Saturn both have huge selections of puzzle games too if you import by the way (PS1 isn't shabby even if you don't)

If you call things like scrabble and shanghai puzzles then you might as well call all the mahjong games puzzles too. Let us buy our cans of worms in bulk - the entire traditional board game genre. :P

If recent releases are counted, we can add these two :

    Cascade (2015)
    Suprakillminds! (2014)

And if Homebrew Roms are counted :

    Mine Sweeper (2013)
    Mega Swirl (2014)
    2048 (2014)
    Solaris (2015)
    Doroppu (2015)

There are only 2 Genesis puzzle games I own, and play for that system, Puyo Puyo 1 and 2. I do love other puzzlers, like Cleopatra Fortune, Magical Drop 1-3, and the Konami Puzzle Damas and Tokkae Damas, but since those never saw the light of day on the Genesis (though the Saturn got them, and I own some of them too, save for CF as it's too expensive), the first 2 Puyo's suffice enough. Same for SNES, but I add Panel de Pon/Tetris Attack to that list (I like the PdP characters a little better as they are the original game characters) and the first 2 Magical Drops.

Now that I accidentally read this thread again, I believe there is no Columns II on Genesis. Arcade only.

    Also update for puzzle fans:

    Mega Mindtris (2017)

    Homebrew Roms

    Virtua Worm (2016)
    TetreX (2017)
    Xump2: Back in Space (2017)
    Tetra-GB (2017)

I don't know why so many people dislike Columns III. I recently discovered it and I had good fun with it. Columns 1, however, is a bit too simple IMHO.

I have always liked Soukoban style games - so Shove It! is right up my alley. Gameplay doesn't get any simpler than in this game - but that doesn't mean the puzzles are easy (especially in the higher levels).

I haven't played it in a while, but I remember disliking Columns III. It might have just been because I suck at it. It's definitely worth keeping solely because of the box art though.

Agreed. I had a lot of fun with that one on Game Gear. I guess we could always track down the Saturn version.
