Mario Is It Me, or Does the Nintendo 64 SUCK?!

Yeah we are in a sega forum so its obvious that everybody loves sega.. but besides sega of course that we play other consoles... but theres one that I think sucks.. the N64 why? NO rpgs, CRAPPY fighting games.. besides it was full of FPS yeah maybe it has the "greatest video game of all time" (ocarina of time.. its a great game but I think that its a sin to call it the greatest video game of all time)

what are your thoughts about this console?
too old for video games huh?

Overall, I personally thought that, not counting the wii, the N64 was the weakest Nintendo console, and didn't offer as big as variety of games as the Saturn and PS1. Even the Gamecube had a bigger, better selection of games.

Don't get me wrong, the N64 did have small selection of good games, but still falls short in comparison to other Nintendo consoles.

One of the best consoles ever in my opinion.

    Kirby 64
    Majora's Mask
    Ocarina of Time
    Goldeneye
    Mario 64
Mario Party 1, 2, and 3 which are pretty much the best ones
    Mario Kart 64
    Doom 64
    Banjo Kazooie
    Banjo Tooie
    Bomberman Hero
Bomberman 64 (Japan, actually bomberman land, two player mode is so fun and addicting)
    Bomberman 64
    Bomberman 64 the Second Attack
    Paper Mario
    Super Smash Bros
    Snowboard Kids 1 & 2
    Pokemon Snap
    Pokemon Stadium
    Tonic Trouble
    Mischief Makes
    Mystical Ninja
    Goemon's Great Adventure
    and many more...

I like it, probably the most un-nintendo like console they ever made, its all about racing, first person shooters, blowing crap up and sitting with your mates playing some 4 player split screen with some beers.

There was also a lot of running around collecting things, which I'm fine with so long as its in moderation (IE not DK64)

The Port-Cube was far, far worse. Horrible, pointless, machine.

So not having any RPGs makes the N64 crap?

If you're referring to the Gamecube, then I disagree, as it a much bigger variety of games. I'm just going to assume you haven't experienced the right games for it.

I think this might be the first time I actually agree with you.
Part of its lack of appeal today is the fact that pretty much all of its games are 3D, BAD 3D! It has aged worse than its cousins, because the Saturn and PS actually had a ton of good 2D games also that are still appealing to this day.
I can't imagine anyone still playing GoldenEye, Perfect Dark, or even Mario Party, Mario Kart 64 and Super Smash Bros. The latter three have had better installments on later consoles and the FPS games are horribly outdated by todays standards. Even though back then, these games were pretty much the biggest system sellers.

Yes, it has a big variety of belated PS2, and Dreamcast ports, shame they could already be bought on PS2/Dreamcast, and many had superior versions on Xbox.

While the Gamecube controller certainly isn't my favorite, I prefer it over the Xbox. You think the Gamecube is a Horrible, pointless, machine, and I think the same of the Xbox. The Xbox had too many American games, and even more FPS games, which makes it paperweight in my opinion.

I'd say the lack of RPGs makes it better IMO, still not the greatest system though, but it had a decent array of titles.
Mischief Makers, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Perfect Dark, Super Smash Bros, Yoshi's Story, DK64, Banjo Kazooie etc.

Given that the console was released just as a early 3D system with rather limited VRAM, it had some rather mediocre games.
It experimented a lot with adapting already existing platformer franchises to 3D which worked to some extent depending on which one (castlevania wasn't too good as a 3D platformer).
But overall I'd say it was still a great system to play multiplayer games on, many battles were fought in Mario Party, Goldeneye and Chameleon Twist

The keyword here being "was". It was certainly the best of the three consoles when it came to multiplayer.
