    Heimdall

We're back with another review, this time for the Sega CD action/RPG Heimdall. Ported from the popular computer formats of the time, Heimdall struggled to adapt to a controller-based gameplay scheme. It was passed over by many a gamer, so we went back and checked if they might have missed something. Did they? Methinks thou hast best read our full review to find out!

just read the new review. Hmm, sounds like there was some wasted potential with Heimdall indeed. From the screenshots, the graphics don't look too bad, but perhaps in motion they aren't as nice. Either way, glad to learn more about this game. fantastic!

Yeah, Heimdall was a game I was interested in seeing when I first saw the GameFan review. I was hoping for an epic Zelda-The Immortal hybrid with Vikings. I guess it still is that, but the review doesn't make it sound nearly as good as I was hoping it to be.

I hated Heimdall. I couldn't even get past the first part because the control was so bad. If I were Sega and had this game on my system, I'd feel inclined to get the hell out of the console market as well.

I really tried to like Hiemdall and I just couldn't. Was I perhaps biased too much by the sloppy controls? Perhaps, but control is a major factor in any game.

And ultimately no review can make someone have a real opinion on the subject. I obviously agree with what I wrote, but for some people the game is probably great.

But for me the game simply didn't take advantage of the system that it had.

It was probably Halverson who reviewed it. He gushes over everything. Very giddy, he is.

hmm i still have some issues of gamefan from when they were still around.

So ok, there's a video game shop that i sometimes go to and here's my dilemma:

They have a copy of heimdall for 15 bucks
and a copy of Dungeons and Dragons eye of the beholder for 20 bucks

From the sound of things, it looks like I should spend the 5 extra dollars and go with the d&d sega cd game? Any help would be wonderful

It's a better game in my opinion (not by too much though, again the control irritated me) but it's much more salvageable than Hiemdall. If I were you I'd probably go for both of them.

I don't know about the first Heimdall, but I used to play Heimdall 2 more than a decade ago, and it was truly an awesome game. A great action-RPG with some excellent zones and well-carried design of them, and a very high emphasis on puzzles and adventuring factors. I could never forget that CORE Design's masterpiece and the time I spent on it.

I never played the fist Heimdall though. I don't know if giving it a chance nowadays, on PC or on Mega CD. Besides, I believe this Mega CD port was another of those weird US-release only cases concerning European games.
