What do b2, c, f1, h1, h1 + c, h2 other rom titles mean? SSF2

Specially [c]. If somebody can make a hack that let's Sega CD music play while I run ssf2 cart in Genesis with volume low, I would like to know what rom is the best to d/l. Yes I hear [w][!] are best what do you go to when that can't be found and what do the others mean [b] = beta but [c !], [h1c] is newest or ?

Once again, thanks Kam. I always thought [a] meant alpha, almost done and [b] meant beta, below alpha level. The reason I ask is because I can't seem to find a [w][!] or [u][!] rom of ssf2 so what is the next best thing iyo ?

You need to search harder my good man . [u][!] or (4)[!] is what you want. Some site don't specify which one it is (other than the country), you can assume it's a [!] in that case. You'll find a lot with [c], some games had to be cracked to run on emulators, it's a shame but those dumps are common.

fyi it seems the current GoodGen collection has the following roms labeled as perfect dumps.

No uncracked versions seem to be available, guess they aren't usable if they aren't cracked?

A LOT of games marked as [c] for "bad checksum" actually aren't bad at all, they just use a different method of calculating the checksum than the "standard" method Sega tried to get folks to use.

If it has a [c] on a Genesis game next to a [!], it means that the game is a good ROM but uses a different checksum system like Dynamite Headdy. In fact if you "fix" this checksum it causes the game to fail. For alphas/betas/prototypes, they are usually listed on the filename and don't use a code.

Oh and there are two main different groups of dumps for cartridges, there's the GoodTools that uses the [letter of region] [!] system [they used to also use JUE and numbers/letters at one point for later games] and there's the No-Intro system that displays just the game and the region of the ROM. In most cases, a GoodTools dump and a No-Intro dump are exactly the same (usually with a different filename, GT uses .bin [but did also use .smd years ago as well] while NI uses .md) but there are a few that are different. NI also try to avoid hacked, cracked or bad dumps but they are usually updated if a game turned out to be a bad dump. For a while No-Intro took over from GoodTools since they didn't update with the new ROM dumps or the redumps while No-Intro did but I think GoodTools has recently updated. There's also TOSEC as well but that is more known for home computers and certain disc based systems and their naming system is like a hybrid of GT and NI, plus for cartridge based systems it isn't as well known.
