    Okay, So the Sonic 2 2 player screen looks find minus some noise lines on the top of the player 2 image. However, the audio keeps cutting out in that video mode and that is new and didn't happen before with the older FW. I tried changing the audio between the 2x = 48khz and 96khz and the 48khz setting actually cuts out even more. So something in the difference in the video mode for Sonic 2 does at least cause some issue with the OSSC for audio. But the image itself looks fine if a tad on the semi fuzzy side and not as clear as the normal single player mode looks. I might just have to go back to the previous firmware to see if that helps etc. but not looking forward to re-keying and dialing in all my settings again. Too bad FirebrandX seems to have removed all of his settings from his page and now only mainly has the new json profiles for the new FW.

    It's a hardware bug that sometimes results in glitched graphics in some console revisions, but for some reason mega Everdrive X1 is particularly susceptible to it and will result in memory corruption instead (and eventually crashes where it made absolutely no sense). I know this because somebody consistently got it to happen in the Arkagis demo when I implemented the guard backwards (whoops) and completely stopped after I fixed that.

    Sega required the guard to be implemented on released games, but it's very easy to overlook in homebrew (most setups aren't affected) and I can see early prototypes also not having implemented that stuff properly yet.

    Yeap, that is what I ultimately ended up doing to get all the old profile parameters. However, it made things worse when I went back to .84. I couldn't get a stable picture on Metal Blast at all under .84 so the game definitely does something odd when it switches to the 320 mode it uses. Also I couldn't get a picture at all on sonic2 2-player mode....sigh. Don't recall having these many issues before and I know the Sonic2 2-player mode used to work fine. I've gone back to .85 where some additional tweaks to Firebrandx's 320 Genesis mode, I was able to get Metal Blast looking really good using 4x mode without phasing issues or ghosting. But still nothing on the sonic 2-player mode. Oh well, I never play sonic 2 in that mode anyway so I will leave it as it is for now.

    And now I feel bad for this thread getting off kilter and didn't really mean for it too.

    OK I finally got my laptop back so I can type long posts again without much trouble.

    In short: you need to keep the Z80 away from the 68000 bus when you start a DMA. The obvious way is to stop the Z80 before starting the DMA, though you can try being smarter (see: XGM). The problem is that if the Z80 and DMA try to get on the 68000 bus at the same time, the bus signals get screwy. On most consoles this isn't a problem with discrete cartridges, but on a few consoles (especially early revisions) you get glitched graphics.

    Now, Mega Everdrive X1 seems to be unusually susceptible to this problem (probably due to the way DRAM refresh is implemented not something trivial when you can't get the CPU away from the bus). Basically, the DRAM refresh seems to go bonkers when this happens and the cartridge memory is corrupted, which eventually leads to crashes since, well, the game is corrupted. This happens even on consoles that usually don't show problems (since the signals are still screwy, just to different degrees of tolerance).

    Later Mega Everdrive models seem to be more resistant to this hardware bug (albeit the glitched graphics issue for some consoles will still be present). Not sure how well Mega SD handles this. In any case it's something you should guard against, since it causes some trouble even on discrete cartridges with some consoles.

    new shooter game coming for mega drive: telethugs.

    it is a port of a PC game (here is the place to download the pc game https://pedro-paiva.itch.io/telethugs).

    it is not 100% equal of the original game.

    2 players game; 4 characters; 4 stages; 4 bosses; 1 ending; options to choose hearts (1-5) and lives (1-9).
