    Default World Championship Soccer

The Genesis debuted in 1989 with a wide variety of games from all genres, sports included. Alongside the great Tommy Lasorda Baseball and the simple, yet fun Arnold Palmer Golf was a soccer game that well, sucked. To be honest, World Championship Soccer wasn't even fun when it came out, and with the plethora of incredible soccer games to be had on the system, there's no reason on Earth to play it today. For that reason, you can consider our full review fair warning.

I won the World Cup on this game the other day. It is utter tosh, but there are far worse football sims out there than this one - the sequel, for example.

Lol, this was actually my first Genesis game. My dad was going to buy me the console for my birthday in August, and since all my friends had bought Space Harrier, Alex Kidd, Revenge of Shinobi, and Golden Axe; I decided to go with this.... ugh.

The worst part is that I had it on layaway, so I didn't get to play it until I flew to Texas and got my Genesis. I beat it once and played Altered Beast for the rest of the day. Worst. Purchase. Ever.

Definitely the most well known soccer game of all time, What a classic! and for all the wrong reasons, hilariously bad sound effects, gameplay and graphics, with the cheesiest 5 note insanely annoying and funny song. The endless grapple of tackling around the middle of the field and the terretorial style of trying to hammer the ball through your opponents to gain ground! Classic gameplay, what a heap of rubbish, but we all love it deep down!

Nice review, it was 100 times more entertaining than the game itself.

This game sucks, but I would have given it an even lower score, like -10.
The smell of scorched oil hangs in the air as a premonition of danger, while the engine gloriously shouts its war cry...

Throughout history, suspicion has always bred conflict. The real conflict, though, resides in people's hearts. This conflict has just begun.

The U.S. really should have been the country to be left out of this game.

For no other reason other than nobody really gives a shit about soccer here.

I feel the same about the Madden football games released here in Europe.

Hmm Smith whats your extreme aversion against sports games! The madden games were brilliant whether you were for europe america of asia, I can recall many a last minute touchdown in madden 92 with a crowd of us around roaring, some games! And I didn't have a clue of American football before I played it, also Italia 90 is a special virus, nothing else compares to how bad it is.

I have nothing against good sports games and had many hours of drunken fun of PGA Tour Golf. American Football is tosh, real men play rugby as opposed to wearing that girly padding and even rugby is too stop-start for my liking.

I'm going to have to agree with Mr. Smith....rugby is a game real men play.

However, I'll take baseball over cricket any day, thank you very much.
