The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

He could have answered when I asked on rhdn if someone wanted to finalize it. He would have spared me some time.

While I want to remain hopeful, let's face facts: When it comes to "vintage" gaming, the Sega Genesis is usually on the bottom of the rung and rarely, if ever, gets any sort of attention from the romhacking/translation community (with the exception of various Sonic The Hedgehog games)

Is he at RHDN though? He wasn't the one that uploaded the file(edit: ...or apparently he has a different name entirely over there).

You could still finish your own. Nothing states only one person/group can translate a game(Antarctic Adventure, Contra retranslation, Dragon Ball Z: Hyper Dimension, Dragon Quest V, Hello Kitty World, Hirake! Ponkikki, Ike Ike! Nekketsu Hockey-bu: Subette Koronde Dairantou, Konami Wai Wai World, Samurai Pizza Cats, Akuji the Demon, Moai Kun, Mystic Ark, plenty of examples of more than one group finishing the same game).

It's an RPG where the battles play like a really bad Street Fighter 2 style fighting game. Which means it's awesome.

The train stations (and probably some other stuff) are based on stations near Sega headquarters in Tokyo (Otorii station, for example, is the nearest station to Sega HQ). I'm not sure if the names were changed for the translation.

I know, but I lost interest. I mean, there are many MD games waiting for a translation, I have really few free time (a job, 2 kids...), I prefer focusing on other translations or homebrews. I may give a try to a VWF one day.

Moreover, I'd use the same translated script (by Paul Jensen), so the interest is really limited...

BTW he apologized (both in public and private), and I think he did a good job and is a valuable person.

I presume the Hero's Computer is a "TERADRIVE" and not a "OTERADRIVE" like was translated

I imagine most of the oddball names were deliberate, by Sega themselves. Some might have been reworked to make sense in English though(Pig Latin company name, most likely for the games main villain group, for example).

Haha, I searched the Japanese script to find the answer to this and the translator made a mistake, but not what you pointed out.

The original Japanese says exactly "OTERA DRIVE". There are other examples of them using real-world companies/products in the game and just changing one or two letters, which is what they did here. Even though Sega designed the TeraDrive, it was manufactured by IBM so maybe there was some issue with using the name. Or they just did it to be funny.

What's funny about the translation is that the original Japanese says (translated by me): "I'm Kent's father. I work at the computer company IBO." This is obviously a reference to IBM, the manufacturer of the TeraDrive. However, when Paul Jensen translated 'IBO', he did it as if it were the Japanese word for zit/mole, and so named the computer company 'ZIT'. This loses the IBM reference.

Small error to an otherwise excellent translation. It's also possible he did that on purpose as well, since it is a double entendre in Japanese. I prefer to keep the IBM reference.

Should be my next translation project (Eien Ni Hen, who did Psy-O-Blade translation, is interested, but not immediately).
    Or Hybrid Front.

But before, I'll play a little with Stef's SGDK.
