Default Mariokart 8 sells 1.2 Million copies in under 4 days

So Nintendo has revealed today that since the game's launch on Friday that Mariokart 8 has already sold over 1.2 million copies. To put that in perspective about 20% of the Wii U's install base has bought the game already. In the UK the game was Number 2 in the Multiplatform sales chart behind Watch Dogs and Wii U hardware sales were boosted by 666% (no joke), with about 82% of that being the Mariokart 8 bundle.

Even I wasn't expecting it to sell this much in that short of time.

It would be even greater if they released it on other platforms.

That's pretty impressive. We'll see if this is just a blip, or if Nintendo is starting to really turn things around.

No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.

They should take the Wii U out with an upcoming update. It's tanking the company.

The Wii U is trash and supporting it is killing Nintendo. In 2 years they will unify behind a new platform that will hopefully be a service client open to other platforms.

It's not like being on their own platform makes them sacred, such as the argument from Trekkies here. All I see is Mario universe shit anyway, so why not sell those same recycled games where there are 200+ million potential customers?

Defending bad hardware is ridiculous. I'm a Nintendo fanboy from the 1980's, and I think the Wii U is absolute shit that should be discontinued immediately. They sell exclusives to compete, yet they can't compete or keep 3rd parties happy, and they have already lost the hardware fight.

I am sure I would enjoy having a Wii U to fuck around with once a month, but the sad argument remains that they can't even provide that much value for something that's still MSRP $300+

I picked it up, and as a result my Wii-U has got more use the last week than the entire time I have owned it.
Graphically it is one of the nicest looking games I have played on a console in a while which both surprises me and makes me a little worried. As given how much more powerfull the PS4 and XboxOne are I can only imagine they will be able to reproduce and surpass that level of graphical prowess.

However, graphics do not a fun game make. They are only one aspect of the game and MK8 is just fun to play. I am able to play with friends without too much hassle, way better than MK or smash on the regular Wii. I am still disappointed by the voice chat not being on during the races so talking to my friend over the Wii-U is still something to be desired.

All in all I'm glad I picked it up as it has breathed some life into the console, but is it going to be something I play constantly until the next major release? does it have that kind of lasting power or is there going to be too long of a lull between releases?

Man 100cc is kind of hard. The computer cheats like crazy. I wish I had some inkling as to what the different car customizations do and power ratings for each character. An onsceen map would be nice as well
