    Thumbs up Mystic Defender censorship. Identifying Rev00 and Rev01 without playing the game.

    I have discovered for everyone here how to determine which version of Mystic Defender is censored and not censored without playing the game but simply opening the cart. I played both versions of the game with a Pro Action Replay with invincibility enabled and I made it to the last boss. The original revision retained the nude Alexandra, and the revised version the nudity has been censored.

    Take a look...

    REV00 = 12707

    REV01 = 12707A

    Cool information. Had to check the PCB of my Mystic Defender and sadly it was the REV01 = 12707A.

    If there's one thing you shouldn't do to someone, it's take away the pixellated boobies

    No, it's unbiased analysis. The only fanboyism is people who claim that Hyperstone Heist and Bloodlines are actually as good as their SNES counterparts.

    Nice find!

    Last year I was trying to find out what version I had, but I couldn't make it to the end. (I kind of suck at that game)
    So I rigged up a system to dump the cartridge ROM images to my computer. I dumped mystic defender, checked the file header, aaaand...... it was a REV01.

    Too bad I didn't know you could just look at the inside of the cartridge itself... It would have saved me a few hours work.

    I don't think so. Must be a similar case to the first two revisions of The Revenge of Shinobi.

    Is the JP version still on cart in the censored version? If so, is it censored too? I'm not sure which rev my cart is, but it plays the JP version in JP mode on my switched Genesis. I noticed some differences in graphics in that version.

    What's the earliest stage to distinguish revs? I seem to remember that it's not necessary to reach the last boss...

    Who doesn't like pixelated boobies?!

    Looks like I have a 12707. This will go nicely with my Revenge of Shinobi version 1.0

    Thanks for sharing!

    Not sure what rev my cart is, but I wonder if it matters when Peacock King II is played off the cart instead.

    If peacock mode means always naked, then a 12707A would be preferable, so that you own both sprites 😁
