Well that was what was originally being used as the guy already redid the entire OST for the Genesis. The new sound driver isn't bad, it's just there's a noticeable drop in the quality from the previous versions.

Just solid colors. A bubble that is not see-through (can't see the stage background behind it, as in the original), and bluer colors for the boss. The only downside is that the boss would still have the same blueish colors when some of it goes out of the bubble, but that barely happens at all anyway. Wouldn't that work?

XGM Sound Driver can't do FM SFX, only MONO PCM SFXs, thats why he made his own sound driver that can do all the Stereo SFX just like in the original, but now, in FM.
At least he could think in release 2 versions, 1 with his own driver to proof his concept and other with xgm.
The sounds effects and music sound much much better on previus versions...
in actual state snes fanboys gonna claim thats MD cant sound good as snes... sadly

SNES fanboys keep saying that MD can't do sound because you all keep trying to show harsh guitars that destroy ears as the prime example of what's great on MD and everybody is left thinking that it can't do anything beyond grating metallic sounds and farts.

I think guitars sounding grating and metallic is unavoidable on the MD. Vapor Trail almost manages to avoid it, but they still sound oddly metallic.
Time Trax and TF4 which everyone considers to have the best sounding guitars on the machine definitely sound metallic.
TF4 is actually not very grating on the low notes, and the same applies to SR's work (which uses TF4 style guitars).

Metal Squad is grating as all heck though, I wish people wouldn't use that song as a "show off" of the genesis to SNES fans. They can't stand the harsh sounds.

I think the dithered bubble looks really good. You just have to see the videos in 240p, and it mixes perfectly.

I just checked, and I disagree. It also makes the big bubble look different from the small ones, which is not the case in the original game. Oh well, can't please everyone.

I watched the video on my CRT TV, since my PC is hooked to it for low resolution things, and the bubble also is not very good, the borders and movement to above are weird, but maybe is indeed the best choice giving the limits.

    Some considerations,
First I think we really have to thank the port that Tiago is making, I worked with Tiago and disagreements aside, he is one of the most talented guys I know, a great Beast.
I'm a big fan of Mr. Daniel "Regime", I would like to work with him one day, but there are a lot of great musicians like him, so let's be patient and wait for the project to be finalized.
About dithering, I don't think it was a bad outcome, it is not always my favorite, but I think it was done well!
Comparisons with Snes will be inevitable, even more than a direct game, but one thing I'm sure, we will have a more fluid game.
My only idea was to switch to high resolution mode, but as I can't do it, I'm very happy with the result.
Guys just a little more affection ok?
Let's thank the miracle first of all!

People like Metal Squad mainly for the composition itself, not for the quality of the sound I guess.

Don't get me wrong, I love the song and it fits the game like a glove, but you really need to be ok with hearing some grating metallic sounds to enjoy it.
War-like Requiem from the same game is a much better option if you want to show off "non-grating" metal on the genesis, or if you just want to show off the chip then one of the jazzy songs is a much better choice.

But Mega Man X uses fart samples for its guitars.

Isn't the issue with showing people Metal Squad as an example of what kind of sounds the Genesis is capable of really hard to do outside of showing them audio recorded on actual hardware with a good version of the Genesis? I hear that the music on TFIV needs that low pass filter, otherwise it will sound way off.

Not every guitar sounds the same...

EX: Dimag from Pantera uses some Guitars tuning thats noboby can mimick and sounds amazing on his hands,
On md games sounds very week in some cases and very cool on already cited cases, also i can includ skitchin and comix zone,
sounds more realist to me than alot of other snes games..

But in the case of MMX, this games uses and abuses from guitar sounds on soundtrack, sounds amazing and since we talking about a port,
the soundtrack must follow hit, savage regime did an amazing job showing a good rendention of this soundtrack...
showing thats its possible make it possible and in some cases even more outstanding than the orginal

That's super lame. Why would you do that over the mesh thing????

For the mesh thing, since it's a BG layer, just do an h-blur effect on it (alternating 1 pixel shifts per scanline, each frame). Problem solved.
