Default Wanted: Cart port extender / region-switch cart - Honeybee SG-300, Megakey, etc

    Hi all,

I'm trying to find a cart that will let me play Japanese Mega Drive games on my SEGA Genesis, like the Honeybee SG-300 or Megakey. Just like everything else in retro-gaming, they are commanding ridiculous prices on eBay right now. Can anyone recommend a cheaper alternative to these carts that are being sold anywhere, or does anyone have one they are willing to sell for an affordable price?

    Thanks!

For MD stuff can't you just get a game genie and be done with it?

I just use a game genie. Not only does it make the carts fit, but you can also enter codes to patch any region locking.
    Modded consoles:
Master System (v7040) with s-video & direct AV out
Model 1 with 10mhz overclock & halt switches
    Model 1 with 10mhz 68010
    Model 2 VA2.3 with unfiltered Mega Amp, & s-video
    Model 3 VA1 with compatibility fixes & s-video
    32X with s-video

It'd be worthwhile to consider modding your system with a discrete switch, and trimming the cart port to allow all games to fit. It's dead easy, and even I managed to do it with no prior experience.

Although I can understand that you may be wanting to keep everything vanilla and have thought about this already. But it really is a worthwhile thing to do in my opinion.

Thanks for the replies - looks like Game Genie is definitely the way to go. Didn't even cross my mind and seems so obvious now!

And yeah, I want to keep the system untouched, it's just my personal preference.
