This can go in the Insert Game forum, since it's gaming-related.

I was saddened to read about this. He was a genuine pioneer and a true legend. R.I.P.

It could be a lot worse, fewer seem to remember this guy, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_L...%28engineer%29 , and he's the reason you can buy individual games(inventor of the programmable cartridge).

Baer also created the first light gun, for the Odyssey of course, which is a full sized rifle(one of the funnier AVGN moments), that also came with it's own games.

I seem to recall Bushnell acknowledging Baer as the Father of video games.

I enjoyed reading the interviews with Baer. I remember him saying in one of his later interviews "getting old sucks!). He seemed like a really cool guy.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

I'm remembering that I saw this in an episode of G4's Icons series.

In January this year, a pal of mine whom I know from the german retro-scene conducted an 1-hour-interview with him... (in heavily accented english, I know, but if you can look past that, Baer has a lot of interesting stories and anecdotes to tell...)

That's what was so great about that man. Yes, he was one of the forefathers of gaming... but even at 92, he was humble, he was very interested in concurrent developments, and he found the time to talk to fans, yes he even sought them out actively on occasion. A man in his nineties, doing a transatlantic interview via Skype with a mere retro-fan - his inventions made him great, but gestures like that are what made this man truly awesome!
The funny thing about an oxymoron is, even if you remove the ox, there'll always be a moron. The Question Remains: Y?

I had just watched it on YT, coincidentally. Really, really great.
