The music that accompanies the introduction to a tournament is full of grandeur, but the in game sound is representative of an actual solo golf outing. There are some bird chirps and appropriate sound effects, and that's about it. There is some nice keyboard music in between holes where they show you the scorecard and leaderboard though. While I like the laidback vibe that the PGA games have, I agree that the gameplay could have used some music. Just something light would've helped. I like the sound effects though. Great swing sound, the ball rattling in the cup, the difference in the crowd applause based on your score, that horrible clunky noise when you duff a shot, etc. Great sfx, but a little more music would've been nice.

You could put on music yourself then if you find it too quiet.

I generally like to hear the sound of the actual game I'm playing. If they developed it like this, that's fine. I'd personally prefer a cool soundtrack to go with any videogame I'm playing, but it is what it is. I'm not really into listening to music along with playing games. Just never something I was into. I think a game tends to build its own visual and audio atmosphere, so I just let that be what I experience. Some people are really into playing their own music though, and that's cool too. To each their own.

    Anyway, thanks for the input.

I always liked Arnold Palmer's, I don't enjoy sports games in general, but it's arcade approach is right up my street.

I had the first Pebble Beach game on the Super Nintendo (actually, it was one of two games I got with my import Super Famicom back around 1991) which was OK, but I also love Irem Skins on that system - it's worth a go if you've not played it before.

Great. No sure if we should also mention that Putter Golf was also released physically on Sega CD/Mega CD not only online. It is part of the collection Game no Kanzume Vol. 2.

Are the PGA games technically 3D games? I mean, the field is a flat shaded poligon, right?

Wasn’t Another World polygonal? And that’s most certainly classified as 2D. Having said this PGA has a 3D perspective so I guess you are correct in that they are static 3D backgrounds with a sprite overlay… the exact opposite to the early Resident Evil games.

Yeah, It's the opposite of Resident Evil, good comparison.
