    Gcn Gamecube Gameboy Player Disc

Wow, these things are hard to find! Anyone have an NTSC US Gameboy Player startup boot disc they'd be willing to sell? I don't want to spend too much...

    Really appreciate it, thanks.

Hey dude, I have an NTSC US Gameboy Player startup boot disc in the original case in great shape.

To be honest I'd strongly recommend another method of playing GB/GBC/GBA games on the Cube, the home-brew application The Game boy Interface: http://www.gc-forever.com/forums/vie...hp?f=37&t=2782

It rectifies all of the problems of the original Game Boy Player; if you're unfamiliar with the inherent deficiencies, here's a recent article with an embedded video that breaks it all down: http://www.retrocollect.com/News/nin...interface.html

You don't even have to mod your Cube to use it, all you would need is one of these (as well as a compatible SD card) to load the app: http://uk.codejunkies.com/Products/G..._EF000580.aspx

Not only is this solution infinitely better than the stock disc, but it's also a lot cheaper (about $20 CAD for you); I can't recommend it enough, I use it with my Everdrive GB and GBA carts, and it's truly night and day compared to the disc GB Player disc.

If for some reason you still prefer the inferior (and more expensive) GB Player disc, I'd be willing to sell it to you as I no longer need it; but to be clear, I do NOT recommend you buy one!

Wow - thanks for the information!

I was aware of the SD launcher - however I am undecided on it. It is actually around $40-$45 when you include the 5GBP shipping here, so it is similar in price to the discs on ebay, not including having to go out and buy an SD card. Also since it's a UK boot disc disc included, won't that only work on PAL Gamecubes? I understand it's a great device though, and the GBI is better than the stock software.

Regarding the Datel SD Launcher, I use it on an NTSC Cube here in Toronto, and it works flawlessly; the boot disc is not for only PAL regions.

Regarding buying an SD card, this is the one I grabbed from Amazon.ca: http://www.amazon.ca/Transcend-Flash...sh+Memory+Card

This card works perfectly with the Datel SD Launcher. It's $10.63 with free shipping, which when combined with the $40-45 you cited for the SD Launcher, is still cheaper than the going rate on Ebay for the Game Boy Player disc. The cheapest Game Boy Player disc I found on Ebay.ca is $54.99 + $5.99 shipping = $60.98 CAD, plus whatever duties you may have to pay on it. Most listing would end up more in the $65-80 CAD range.

I'll reiterate finally that I don't recommend seeking out the Game Boy Player Disc, unless you prefer a laggy, blurry, dimly colored picture with dropped frames. If that experience sound up your alley, I'll sell you mine for $50 CAD + shipping to Vancouver, which is more expensive that the superior alternative I broke down for you.

Ok, well in that case I think the SD launcher is the smart choice!

And you definitely ordered yours from the UK site you linked to? I've found complaints about people getting the wrong version here and references to different versions here. The US site is out of stock http://us.codejunkies.com/products/g..._ef000589.aspx which makes me nervous... no way to specify PAL/NTSC version on checkout and neither the UK nor US page makes no references to which ones it works on.

Really appreciate the honest help and advice!

edit: Just sent them an email asking if it works on NTSC - just want to be sure!

No worries. If I remember correctly, you specify during checkout which region you'd like. If you want to be 100% sure, definitely wait for their response to assuage any of your concerns.

*EDIT: I just went through my email, and I can confirm I did in fact order from the UK site, and it's working perfectly here in Toronto; buy with confidence!
