One question would be whether they're true ports (rewritten to run natively on the PS2 hardware), or emulated. I'd personally say emulation doesn't count, since you're just using a more powerful system to "create" the less powerful system, so to speak. But it can be impossible to know what's going on under the hood.

The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Good job gamevet. But i don't know about Double Dragon II. The first stage is ok but the others seems to me a bit different.
PS: Toki is an excellent arcade port for 8 bit.

My first thoughts that in terms of 1:1 arcade ports that it has to be either the Saturn or the Dreamcast, the latter made ports easier due to Naomi. In terms of overall, then it gets harder. For stuff on the Atari 2600, some of the arcade ports barely resemble the game [earlier ones are much closer like Breakout, Space Invaders or even Donkey Kong]. If home computers count, then I'm sure the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and the Amiga/Atari ST would have a ton of arcade ports since they cover the 80s and even the early 90s.

So here's the Dreamcast (79, possibly more):

    Direct ports via Naomi:
    1. 18 Wheeler
    2. Alien Front Online
    3. Border Down
    4. Capcom vs SNK
    5. Capcom vs SNK 2
    6. Cannon Spike
    7. Chaos Field
    8. Confidential Mission
    9. Cosmic Smash
    10. Crazy Taxi
    11. Charge n Blast
    12. Death Crimson OX
    13. Dead or Alive 2
    14. Ferrari F355 Challenge
    15. Giant Gram 2 : All Japan Pro Wrestling In Nippon Budokan
    16. Giant Gram 2000: All-Japan Pro Wrestling 3
    17. GigaWing 2
    18. Guilty Gear X
    19. Heavy Metal : Geomatrix
    20. Ikaruga
    21. Marvel vs Capcom 2
    22. Outtrigger
    23. Power Stone
    24. Power Stone 2
    25. Project Justice - Rival Schools 2
    26. Samba de Amigo
    27. Sega Marine Fishing [US only]
    28. Sega Tetris
    29. Shikigami no Shiro II [Japan only]
    30. Spawn

    33. Typing of the Dead
    34. Virtua Tennis
    35. Virtua Tennis 2
    36. Zero Gunner 2
    37. Zombie Revenge

    Non-Naomi arcade ports:
    38. Cleopatra Fortune
    39. Dance Dance Revolution 2nd Mix
    40. Dynamite Cop [Model 2]
    41. Fighting Vipers 2 [Model 3]

    Unsure:

Yu Suzuki Game Works (emulation or arcade ports?)

    Emulation!
    Atari Anniversary Edition
    Midway's Greatest Hits Volume 1
    Namco Museum

Oddity - Virtua Athlete 2K/2000 was later ported to the arcade even though it was originally a Dreamcast game and Pop'n Music 3 and 4 are add on discs. Less than I honestly thought, what about the Saturn then? Okay, here we go:

168 already! 169 if Doki Doki Penguin Land counts since it came out on the SG-1000 and the arcade simurelease. As in that the SG-1000 and the arcade game are identical, unknown which of the two came out first. Sonic Wings Special could be 170 if I can find out the correct release date due to conflicting information (was Sonic Wings Limited the arcade version released at the same time July 1996 or 1997?).

STV simurelease [as in both arcade and console, unknown which came first]:

    Astra Superstars
    Baku Baku Animal
    Batman Forever*
    Cotton 2
    Cotton Boomerang
Dark Legend/Outlaws of the Lost Dynasty

Steep Slope Sliders [one of the last Saturn games]
    Virtua Fighter Kids
    Virtua Fighter Remix
    Winter Heat
Zen Nippon Pro Wrestling featuring Virtua

While Columns 97 is a STV game, it is only included in Columns Arcade Collection so I'm assuming that the arcade version came out first then ported to a compliation. An extra 26 games if they count.

    Emulation!
Midway Presents Arcade's Greatest Hits (yeah, I'm surprised that emulation existed in 1996)
Midway Presents Arcade's Greatest Hits: The Atari Collection (ditto)

If they count, add an extra 12 games on top.

    Remakes?:
Race Drivin' (includes arcade mode at a higher frame rate and a "real mode" with textures, plus extra cars)

(203 if all these games count)

    * - Also available on the PlayStation. ** -As part of the Sega Ages collection for the US/EU with removals.

Wow! That's a lot of arcade ports. If I have time, I might go through the PS1 games to see if it is higher or lower. While the PS1 loses the Sega games and most of the STV ports/some older stuff, it also gains in the form of Namco who brought out a good amount of their arcade games, Midway's chunks of games, some other ports such as the Raiden Project (two games there), Metal Slug X and Gaelco's Radikal Bikers off on top of my head.

Donkey Kong on the Atari 2600 is horrible. It's not even close to being like the arcade. Omega Race, on the other hand, is a really excellent port of the arcade game.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

But it can be impossible to know what's going on under the hood.
I'd say all the PS2 compilations which offer filtering options and/or weird aspect ratios are emulated for sure.
The Namco compilations on it seem to be all emulated as well. Taito's, etc.

If you cut off those, I think the PS2 can't compete with the past gens. And I agree with your point.

If home computers count, then I'm sure the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and the Amiga/Atari ST would have a ton of arcade ports since they cover the 80s and even the early 90s.
It's not a port if things like AI, controls, collision, track/level design aren't very similar to the original IMO.
And, by the way, lots of those European "ports" are innacurate af.

Stuff like Atomic Runner, Cadash, Caliber .50, MegaTrax, ESWAT: City Under Siege, Super Monaco GP and Alien Storm are NOT arcade ports IMO. And I'd say the same about most of the 8-bit "ports" people are listing in this thread.
I've also cut the Probe's versions of MK and Primal Rage since their AI and collision is highly inaccurate.

I don't know if NES list is complete, but I believe there's a NES version of Shinobi and one of Altered Beast. I don't know if they qualify as ports though.

    Wasn't Rolliing Thunder 2 an arcade game ? I'm pretty sure 3 wasn't but 2 I'm not sure.

Couple more for the MD list Barone: Super Baseball 2020 and Viewpoint.

I agree stuff like ESWAT, Toki, Shadow Dancer etc are out on account of their remixed nature, dunno about Probe MK/Primal Rage though - they're clearly trying to be straight ports, even if they do fail to be faithful.

The first one I had really forgotten and the last one I was debating with myself. But it seems that Viewpoint is accurate to the source material minus several enemies. So I've included both.

The Probe's 16-bit versions are really, really butchered and inaccurate. They don't belong to that list IMO.
If you master the arcade originals and go play their versions there's a HUGE gap in all areas, including the gameplay. It's like Saturn's Virtua Racing: it may look like the arcade game at times but inside it's completely fucked up.
