Arrow Final Fantasy XI PS2/Xbox 360 support finally ended.

Long story short, Square Enix finally ended support of one of their longest running games for a console being Final Fantasy XI. They're still running the game online for PC users & have made no plans to end support along with them still doing version updates with a new one coming out this month.

I have to sit back & think about this. While I'm sad that support is over for the console versions, I have to be thankful that it lasted so damn long. There were people still playing online with their PS2s for over sixteen damn years. I've been playing FFXI on and off since it's release and it just amazes me it's been running this long. Generally tho I remember reading a "Dev Post" on SE's official forums about this and they stated that Sony was more or less willing to leave the PS2 Network up for as long as Square Enix wanted to use it which you have to think, the only game still on it was FFXI. So here's to both Sony and SE who supported a system for online use for almost two decades.

I'm just amazed they went beyond the amount of the support I expected.

P.S. If anyone's curious. I'm Snk on Sylph server.

I had no idea it lasted this long! The fact that even the PC version outlived such games as Phantasy Star Online is amazing in and of itself!

Did anyone play that game recently online before they dropped support?

Haven't touched any of the FF games past 9. Only played from 4 to 9. I also bailed out of gaming during PS2 era. Though I mean to one day play X and X2 (my brother bought the HD versions). But anything after that looks like an entirely different series.

Oh, my fave FFs were 6, 7, and 8. Don't get why so many see 4 as their fave. And was quite disappointed with FF9.

Isn't 11 the first one that was online only?

Was the server-side player data between the PS2 and PC versions linked? Like in other words, were the accounts universal?

Seriously though. I'm asking if anyone here has played the PS2 version of FF XI recently. I want to know if there are still hardcore fans. There are other games on the PS2 that are online only that dropped support a long time ago. I wonder if there are other servers like they did with the Dreamcast's PSO.

I miss the fact that I never got the chance to play Front Mission Online. Big FM fan, and that would've been one of the ones I really could have enjoyed.

That's correct. You could play your account on a PC, Xbox 360 or PS2. Before the servers for the PS2 and Xbox 360 was ended, SE posted information on how to transfer your account info to the PC Version. The game is still running strong even now after all these years.

This was just recently posted a couple of days ago..

And to answer the other question, yes there are indeed private servers but it's usually only for PC users only.
