Default Megadrive PAL Asia : 50 or 60 Hz

    Hi,

I'm considering buying a Megadrive PAL Asia (not japanese). I'd like to know : are they 50 Hz or 60 Hz ? I read contradictory things on the net.

    PAL is normally 50 HZ...

    Asian Megadrives are 50hz.

Sadly I got stung buying one a few years ago when some asshole told me he was selling a Japanese Megadrive.

I had an "Asian" mega drive, mint in box. The main board on this particular one looked to have been a Japanese type as it had been retro-fitted with a seperate crystal circuit for the video circuit.

So it was set up as 50Hz video, JPN language.
Thank you for donating to the Sega 16 bit manuals!

It might be difficult to sort out rumor from fact. I believe Sega never used PAL60 (Brazil has the different PAL-M), or paired 50Hz video and JPN language.
PAL Asia systems have Japanese shaped cartridges, with Europe region settings. 50Hz, English language.

Taiwan and the Philippines are other historically NTSC countries in Asia. So their Megadrives would either be NTSC Asian or ordinary Japanese units.
