Default ESCAPE 2042: THE TRUTH DEFENDERS for SEGA Megadrive/Genesis - April 2017

    ESCAPE 2042: THE TRUTH DEFENDERS

From Orionsoft, the creator of Alice's Mom's Rescue and Zia & the Goddesses of Magic, here come Escape 2042: The Truth Defenders, a fast paced 2D platformer with 2 mini-games included.

The main game features security cameras to avoid, firing enemies, grenades to collect, computer "hacking" to open doors or disable laser protection fields, and level card based locked door in the first prison levels. The game will take place in 3 different environments (prison, forest, desert) interspersed with 2 mini-games including a reversed shoot'em up and an original abseiling game. The project is targeted for the following platforms: Dreamcast, Megadrive/Genesis, Gameboy, PC-Engine CD & Windows
But since the kickstarter is unsuscesful, it's only released for Dreamcast, Megadrive/Genesis, and Gameboy. Available soon in mid-April 2017.

    Story:

In the year 2042, a socialist government is in power, but nobody had foreseen progressive dictatorship that settled in. The elites of the government hid behind a sham democracy, disconnected from the life the people were leading, and acted solely in their own interests. The regime considered the dissidents as conspiracy theorists, treated them like terrorists and locked them away in highly-secured prisons, to prevent them from telling the people the truth about the manipulating medias accomplice of the government power.

You are Eris, a computer engineer and member of the Truth Defenders coalition. After a clandestine operation to inform the people, you are locked away in the highly-secured prison Bulor 24. But your knowledge on security systems will enable you to escape. Your turn now to escape as fast as you can from this place!

Not a lot new Gameboy titles, that's for sure.

Maybe I need to try that too, one day.

This looks good. I like some of the cool gameplay ideas that are being implemented in some of the new games being made for old systems. I hope this reaches its goal because I would love to play this one.

I particularly like the way they made the player appear as a small character on screen. Given the limited resolution of old systems, I'm surprised that there weren't more developers going down that road instead of making huge sprites that take up most of the screen. I know that some games did use small sprites (like ResQ), but it really wasn't very many games.

Maybe because small sprites was a staple of the previous generation (out of hardware constraints) and nobody wanted to risk evoking that yet.

Animating bigger sprites is also a pain. More ROM space needed.

Looks quite fun, has a C64 Impossible Mission vibe.

I dont like how some projects are on multiple platforms that dont make sense. Its essentially an 8 bit game, hence the gameboy version, also on a 16 bit genesis and 128 bit dc?! Id rather have a game that focus on a single platform or at least in the same ballpark spec wise, then an unimpressive game on different platforms. Doesnt mean it will be a bad game but it looks like crap

As far as I can tell, that's exactly what's being offered here. They are making the game for Gameboy and MD/Gen, then making it for Dreamcast. Why would you want them to make an unimpressive game?

This looks cool. I'm another one that likes smaller characters, as long as they are well-animated like this one. Gives you more room for action! I love both X-Men games for Genesis but I think the smaller characters in X-Men 1 were better, especially when playing with two players.

Looks decent, but ehhh, the small main character doesn't do it for me. Gameboy version better suited for it.

€9,146 pledged of €25,000 goal and only 4 days to go.
    I don't think it's gonna make it.

You'd be surprised how big a rush these things can get in the last few days.

What other advertising are you doing? Got anything planned for the last few days?

So what happens if the goal is not reached? Will the deadline be extended or is that it?

I can't believe this isn't close to being funded. Its a decent concept, a free demo was provided, its been shown that the game runs of Megadrive + Gameboy, and a sensible amount of money was asked for. What does it take to get people to back a game? I hope the money is found to get this one finished, because I really like the look of it.
