It does look more like an 8-bit game up-ported to a 16-bit machine. I can see how it could feel right at home on an 8-bit system.

I usually have to spit whenever someone mentions this game. Sadly I just now have spat on my carpet thanks to your thread.
The Mega Drive was far inferior to the NES in terms of diffusion rate and sales in the Japanese market, though there were ardent Sega users. But in the US and Europe, we knew Sega could challenge Nintendo. We aimed at dominating those markets, hiring experienced staff for our overseas department in Japan, and revitalising Sega of America and the ailing Virgin group in Europe.

Then we set about developing killer games.

The port is much much worse than the NES original. I wonder how could they fk up this much considering the superior hardware.

True. It's not a great game but it's still very much playable.

Well, the art fucked everything. If they used the NES 8-Bit graphics would be much better than the new badly redrawed graphics.
EDIT: It's a really nice game

I have this on a 112 in 1 pirate cart so I thought id give it a quick go, its true that the graphics are poor the colours are pretty garish. Maybe it could be improved slightly with a colour hack to make it a little more tolerable. It looks like an atari st or samcoupe game. Although the game itself feels ok in the short time iI played it, ill have to give this one some playtime I think it could be worth a little time.

Now that is a game that Nintendoes what Genesis can't.

Its depressing how something that is so tight with graphics and music from the 8bit port becomes so amateurish ported to the Genesis. Its kind of like Mega Man Wily Wars but worse.

As people are saying, Ringler Studios really dropped the ball with the amateurish 16-bit graphical respray. If it took the NES art as the base and just added some extra shading and a couple of layers of parallax scrolling it would look much more respectable.

Gameplay wise I think the original NES version catches criticism thanks to some cheap hits, It doesn't seem as well regarded as the first 8-bit Batman game.

People saying the Controls are clucky

I don't have any problems with the controls,

If Sunsoft done the Genesis version, It would be on par with the NES version

Sunsoft didn't seem too worried about contracting out Blaster Master to western developers either, with similarly funky results. Actually the graphics at least in that one are not too bad, which is more than I can say for Batman ROTJ.
