Perhaps, but it's also due to the Game Boy hardware. That port really shouldn't have been attempted IMO.Originally Posted by 108 Stars

Overall is a good port, but with these problems:
-NTSC systems runs this game 15% faster than the original game.
-Music sounds MUCH WEAK than the AMIGA original.
-The Worse of all, Life is drained 4x faster than the original game!!!
Someone is capable to fix this damage problem?

The damage problem is what kills the port for me.

I need to try Megadrive version, but when I was a kid, I loved Turrican on gameboy! (the music was good) Tiny sprites, but fast gameplay!

About how fast life gauge is drained, is it the same as the PC Engine version? Both the MD & PCE ports are made by Accolade but the MD one is far superior. Compared to the MD version the PCE port :
- has overall worse prsentation;
- lacks most of the music;
- lacks the level 3;
- & runs in lower-res.
So i wonder now about the gauge... I'll give it a go to check this.

I'd love to play this, but I don't see your link anywhere.
Anyway, kudos on making the game more playable. It'd be a decent port without the life issue.

Now to get a REALLY perfect port only need fix:
The speed issue, if played on NTSC systems
The MUSIC
Put the original intro screens
Put the original ending text. The final screen is here, but with no text, only "THE END"... WHY Codemonkeys???.

Cool, thanks! I'm gonna have to check this out.
Nice work on the improvements, but the Amiga or C64 version is the real way to play this.
When I was a little boy, Turrican was one of the most popular games in Europe, so when I had the chance to play it on a MD emulator, I was dissapointed with the life bar draining like that. To see it run on real hardware, this was one of the first games I tried with my Everdrive, and while I didn't have the NTSC-related - as I live in PAL zone - speed issues, it was still annoying.
Then I decided to try it on a C64 emu. And, man, the original game is a BLAST! It's challenging, full of zones to explore, and because the life bar drains at a reasonable pace, is playable and highly enjoyable. Technically, if you live in a PAL zone, the MD version is good enough, but I had to hack it with an Action Replay code for infinite lives to make it playable. And even then, watching Turrucan's life bar draining like that is enough to annoy even the most sesoned player. I'll have to dare and try the hack above. Never tried to hack a rom before, but it's never too late...
Other than that, I know it was made 10 years ago, but I couldn't care less for this review. It's fair enough generally speaking, but it omits the fact that this game is a [shitty] port of a [very good] computer game. It would have been a lot better if compared to it. And the overall note would have been even worse!l

Just discovered the ROM hack and just to say a big thank you. Loved this game for my ST and really wanted a good version for the MD and after applying this hack we now have it.
Now just need someone to hack Universal Soldier back into Turrican 2 !
