N64 N64 Classic If it were to come out + Game suggestions

This is just so Barone doesn't have a fit on his Mythology topic.

Let's take an idea of what games could come out for it. This also means no licensed games (Goldeneye, WWF), no defunct companies games (Acclaim for example), and no Rare games with DK64 as an exception.

I see at least Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, both Zelda games, Smash Bros., a Mario Party game (probably 2), DK64, Paper Mario. Others I see as a possibility include Dr Mario 64, maybe a couple Pokemon games (Puzzle League seems obvious). I don't know what there is for 3rd party games that can be picked for the Classic due to many of the publishers being gone or bought by other companies.

Does anyone think this will come out this year or will it be next year?

Isn't Majora's Mask the better game?

Mischief Makers. No really. That game should have been on Saturn. Amazing game. Sin & Punishment is another. Other than that I can only imagine be the same games everyone mentions on N64 minus Rare games which is like 70% of N64's games worth playing and without Rare games..N64 classic won't look too great.

Life!? ... What console is that on?

I'd like to think Golden Eye would make it onto a classic mini but with all the legal red tape it would probably never happen. That being said, I could see maybe 20 to 25 games total for the system. I would love for Nintendo to make this mini work better then we'd expect with maybe options to clean up all the game to an even higher level of clean then we'd expect along with 4 controller ports.

Release the system with 2 controllers and then offer more via purchase for $9.99 each and by fucking god re-design them so the god damn analog sticks don't wear down over time anymore.

I think it would be better to not get the pitchfork frankenstein controller in general. Maybe they can collaborate with Retro Fighters to use their controller for the N64 Mini.

The thing about the NES and SNES Classics was that there were a lot of third party games on both of them. Konami and Capcom had very little presence on the N64, and what games they had weren’t all that amazing. Who were the big third parties on the N64? Rare and (smirk) Ubisoft.

I’m betting there will be 15 games on the N64 Classic. Here are my picks:

    1. Mario 64
    2. Paper Mario
    3. Mario Kart
    4. Mario Party 2
    5. Ocarina of Time
    6. Majora’s Mask
    7. Donkey Kong 64
    8. Diddy Kong Racing
    9. Pilot wings 64
    10. Pokemon Snap
    11. Sin & Punishment
    12. Wave Race 64
    13. Super Smash Bros
    14. F-Zero X
    15. Kirby 64

Crap... ran out of slots before I ran out of games. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Doom 64 on it (seriously). Maybe 1080 Snowboarding. Maybe Dr Mario. Maybe Yoshi’s Story.

I believe Nintendo will/could go with something like this:

    1. Super Mario 64
    2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
    3. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
    4. Mario Kart 64
    5. Starfox 64
    6. Mario Tennis
    7. Conker's Bad Fur Day
    8. Banjo-Kazooie
    9. Banjo-Tooie
    10. Yoshi's Story
    11. Diddy Kong Racing
    12. F-Zero X
    13. Harvest Moon 64
    14. Paper Mario
    15. Perfect Dark
    16. Sin and Punishment
    17. Pokemon Stadium 2
    18. Donkey Kong 64
    19. Super Smash Bros.
    20. Mario Party 2
    21. Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber

I can’t imagine anything owned by exclusively by Rare will make the list. Maybe when the Xbox Classic comes out?

How many games do you guys think might be included? He says 25. I'm thinking 20+1 is around the acceptable number. Also, his definitive top 10 list is spot on. I didn't see anything about 007, but I can understand it being matter of copyrights re-acquisition. The only thing I might have added to the top his list, which didn't even reach his top 10, is Wave Rave 64. That is a must have on a this possible Classic console.

Which brings me to my next point. Were you given a similar 20+1scenario as we got on the SNES Classic for an N64 Classic, can you guys name/predict to the best of your ability what might show up on the system?

    Game on!

P.S.> For me, I think the US NTSC version will be something like this:

    1. Super Mario 64
    2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
    3. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
    4. Mario Kart 64
    5. Starfox 64
    6. Golden Eye
    7. Conker's Bad Fur Day
    8. Banjo-Kazooie
    9. Banjo-Tooie
    10. Kirby's Air Ride
    11. Diddy Kong Racing
    12. F-Zero X
    13. Harvest Moon 64
    14. Paper Mario
    15. Perfect Dark
    16. Pokemon snap
    17. Sin and Punishment (would be the first official US release)
    18. Mischief Makers
    19. Super Smash Bros.
    20. Yoshi's Story

And if there is a +1, quite possibly could be something along the lines of ClayFighter Scultor's Cut. Or perhaps one of the Mario Party games, if not all.

It's safe to say Nintendo doesn't care for Pilotwings series to be included in their legacy defining plug & play consoles.

However I do agree with you that N64 classic will have less games than the SNES Classic, I would guess 15 + 1 bonus.
With such low number of spots Nintendo has enough first-party software to fill the selection all by itself so I think it's unlikely any third-party game to be included.
Judging by the iconic status of the games/franchises I think the most likely game selection will be:

    Donkey Kong 64
    F-Zero X
    Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards
Mario Golf or Mario Tennis (Mario Golf sold slightly more)
    Mario Kart 64
    Mario Party 2
    Paper Mario
Pokémon Snap (a Pokemon game will be included for sure)
    Star Fox 64
    Super Mario 64
    Super Smash Bros.
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (may risk to be excluded if OoT is considered to be enough Zelda)
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Wave Race 64 or 1080° Snowboarding (Wave Race 64 is more likely)
    Yoshi's Story

    Bonus:
Sin & Punishment or maybe Ocarina of Time Master Quest

If there are more slots than 15 + 1 (let's say 20 + 1) there might be room for some lesser known (but high regarded) games like Ogre Battle 64 which Nintendo own the game rights while SquareEnix owns the Ogre franchise rights through the Quest acquisition (it's similar to the Bayonetta 2 deal).

Pilotwings did make it to the 3DS. I was really hoping that it was going to get a version for the GameCube.
A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

My dream selection in the case of 15 + 1 slots would be:

    F-Zero X
    Paper Mario
    Star Fox 64
    Super Mario 64
The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
    Wave Race 64
    Ogre Battle 64
    Blast Corps
Mischief Makers or Rayman 2 or Banjo & Kazooie
    Micro Machines 64 Turbo
    Space Station Silicon Valley
    Doom 64
    Mystical Ninja starring Goemon
    Resident Evil 2

    Bonus:
    Sin & Punishment

Oh it did and Nintendo is used to make unexpected revival of their legacy IP like Punch Out!! on Wii or Kid Icarus reboot on 3DS.
What I'm saying is that all signs point to Nintendo not bothering including the Pilotwings franchise in their legacy defining plug & play consoles.
I believe Pilotwings was close to appear on GC by the hand of Factor5:

Won't sell. There are not many people having nostalgia for poor polygonal graphics with blurry texture filtering. People love sprites and pixels. N64-style graphics - not so much.

I'd say, out of early polygonal games, stuff like Model 1 and Model 2 games aged much better and could sell. Or something like Quake 1 software rendered graphics. Devil Daggers imitated this style was was well recieved.
