Default What was your FAV Shoot Em UP (Genesis)

The Genesis has been known for its library of A plus Shoot Em Ups. I never was a huge fan of the genre but there are some that deserve to be in every genesis system. I think Lightning Force will always hold the title as MUST HAVE GAME. I've never played anything quite like it before. Also Super Fantasy Zone

    but thats just my opinion

Lightning Force/ThunderForce IV is the premiere G/MD shmup. After that would be MUSHA, probably. The rest, for all their quality, fall far behind those two.

I've yet to play all of them but so far, these are the top 5:
    MUSHA
    Thunder Force 4
    Eliminate Down
    Gaiares
Elemental Master or Trouble Shooter Vintage

Oh yeah, Panorama Cotton is my favourite!
For some reason my brain excluded rail shooters from the term shoot em up.

Hey wait! I thought you can only pick one!?

Gaiares is my favorite shooter for SG - no doubt. After that, probably TF3. TF4 tried to hard and lost the magic that TF3 had - sorry. It's still a nice game, but I'd rather play a few other shooters before that. Also, anyone remember how Lightning Force was a mean ol' sleeper game? It was $29.99 brand new and I remember the store clerk saying they didn't sell much of them. Probably not as much of a sleeper than Trouble Shooter, but still...

Edit: I'm glad to see someone mentioned Vapor Trail. I love that for the music alone. I could listen to it for hours

Lightening Force released as a friggin' budget title? That it worthy of much lulz.

It was not released as a budget title. It was released at the same price as any other 8 meg game of the time. The price probably lowered when it didn't sell. Why didn't it sell? Ask the god damn fucktards at Sega of America who thought it would be a neat idea to change the name. Seriously, Sega of America = some of the biggest retards you'll ever hear of. If anyone who has ever worked for Sega of America is reading this, then yes, I mean YOU.

Joe... maybe you got ripped off. I dunno. I bought the game when it *first* hit the shelves. A friend and I were waiting impatiently for it. It was $29.99 new at Software Etc (all of them in town). I didn't check the other stores since I already had purchased it.

Yeah, that's got to be one of the worst decisions in history... I've often thought ex Sega of America employees lurk this forum from time to times so maybe just maybe your complaints got through! Oh heck it's years too late now though, oh well.
