    Yeah, the motherboard type is in the serial (assuming no one swapped the internals). VA0 and VA1 boards have 20 pin drives.

    So what are the advantages of the 21 pin models? That's a whole extra pin! They wouldn't just go and add an entire pin if it didn't reap some mega-sweet benefits. Like, is there an extra line of resolution in some games? Or can the 21 pin models put an extra sprite on screen maybe? Or perhaps loading 2MB of data now only takes 3.868858 seconds instead of 3.868859 seconds? That would be pretty bad-ass! I can see why they added the extra pin.

    Sega is awesome.
