Just buy a Saturn with a dead laser. I had a couple Saturns with dead lasers and used the model 2 for Mode so I could swap the shell for a translucent one.

I'm hoping to one day get my original launch Saturn fully operational again, but it's not playing anything now.

I went with SSD in my Dreamcast MODE. I just didn't want to deal with the power draw and heat from a spinning disc drive, especially in cases never designed to have them.

BTW the Fenrir can now make use of the original drive without removing it, using this...

What size SSD? I have a spare 512GB Samsung laying around that I could use for a DC

I went with an SSD in my MODE as well but I only put a 256GB one in mine as that was twice the space I needed for my actual DC library to fit onto it. My only real issue with the MODE is the fact that we don't have the ability to move files between the SDcard and the internal SSD. I have a laserbear bracket in mine now and just don't feel like tearing it all down again to add more files back to the SSD. So... I keep hoping they will add that in at some point but it isn't looking too promising.

Yes I've complained about not being able to move files on the Discord, doubt that will ever get added. Furthermore, the covers database remains closed source I think, and they won't add any for prototypes or homebrew. So I came to the decision to just leave the static original library on the SSD 500GB, though I haven't finished curating my library yet! I bought a Laserbear 3D-printed brace and cover for the opening, which came with a microSD cable. I'm just going to use the card slot for homebrew and maybe prototypes too, since like I said you can't add artwork for them separately.

This is exactly what I've ended up doing as well. I've got a smaller 32gb SDcard and have the newer Atomiswave conversions and some later 'brews loaded up on it with my actual library retained on the SSD for now.
