Yeah I noticed that too. The explosion colors look a little grainy though, which is suspicious.

Late to the party, but they did indeed confirm that the music was recorded from the Mega Drive version:

Also seems there's a sound test? (tweet is kinda vague, but I suppose that's the case since I don't think you would disable sound effects with an option called MUSIC)

    EDIT: more tidbits

    https://twitter.com/operahouseinfo/s...66857611575299
    - Mega Drive and X68000 versions had been developed at the same time? (note: I could be misunderstanding)
    - X68000 pushes lots of colors and lots of scroll
    - Mega Drive version explicitly aims for 60 FPS (so hopefully no slow downs?)

…uh, does the X68000 version slow down badly or something? Because the framerate comment is odd

    https://twitter.com/operahouseinfo/s...71000908652544
    - No loading times (oh right, this is the only cartridge version)
    - Tried to make sure that sound wasn't badly compressed (that explains the drums, I guess)

    https://twitter.com/operahouseinfo/s...81347229020160
The Mega Drive version doesn't add a suffix to the title (so it's just Mad Stalker, not Mad Stalker MD) and it seems the focus when they were working on it now was mostly on the music? Not surprised tho since they mentioned music was broken and were busy trying to fix it, so that's clearly the one thing they had to touch before release (it also means that any questionable graphics conversion choices were taken back in the '90s).

They wanted to make sure that the price wouldn't be higher than back then

As far as getting this game, will it only release as a Megadrive game? As in, exclusively in Japan for Japanese consoles?

I think so, though I wouldn't be surprised if it's only because of the cartridge shape (Columbus Circle really needs to switch to more universal cartridges).

    Also new tweet:

They actually considered correcting Forth to Force at some point, but then rolled it back because the Mega Drive version was originally stated to release before the X68000 one and they wanted to emphasize that. They also mention some other bugs they fixed (such as crashes or apparently some bug with scoring? either way, that stuff was fixed so it's not like we'd ever know about it)

So it turns out there's also a soundtrack CD for 2500 yen (taxes included). Not sure where to buy it though, I suppose at the same stores as the game itself? It launches in a handful of days (the 17th).

    There's a demo in SoundCloud:

I wish there was a way to get a NTSC version of this.

Yeah, there are two NTSC regions :P That's why we prefer to go by territory instead (though Overseas/PAL is kinda weird, since it's canonically "Europe" but really covers all 50Hz countries which are spread all over the place)

EDIT: does Mad Stalker even have region lockout, anyway? (aside from the cartridge shape but that can be by-passed easily with an adapter or a Game Genie)

Weren't Japanese games technically going by NTSC-J? Well, I meant US. I was hoping for a cart I could play on a Genesis and not a Megadrive.

I'm actually able to use my 32x for JPN MD games. They can be a snug fit but they go in without having to modify anything. And yes a GG works as well or should in most cases. But since my 32x is always attached, it is nice that I can just use it.

AFAIK no single aftermarket game has region lock beyond cart size, right? Is there then any difference between NSTC-U and NTSC-J ?
