    Puyo LHX Attack Chopper

The Genesis hosts a slew of 3D military simulators, giving players the chance to pilot tanks, planes, and helicopters in flat-shaded, polygonal battlegrounds. Electronic Arts' LHX Attack Chopper is one that has a decent game experience to offer if you can get past the slow pace and learning curve. Read our full review for more details.

IMO the best sim on the system. The developers managed to strike the right balance in terms of simplifying the game for the system while not making it feel too arcadey: the handling was simplified so you don't need to worry about losing altitude while flying forward, something that would have been hard to deal with on pads of the era, but that was pretty much the only major gameplay change IIRC. It was a shame that the other helicopters from the PC version were removed, but I guess they were short on ROM space.

Compared to LHX I was so disappointed in F-117. I expected it to be LHX with a stealth fighter, or like the PC F-117 sim, but instead it was limited to fixed scenarios with only parts of missions being playable.

I liked F 117 and also M1 tanks. The one I didn't like was Steel Talons just was just asking too much

all those games improve greatly when played on an overclocked system (or an emulator that allows OC FTM)

I actually enjoyed Steel Talons in the arcade (?!) and I debated against either the Genesis version, or LHX. I made the right choice! I was a little jealous of my friendís PC at the time because he could play the full version, and I was still using a Macintosh Plus until 1997. And the LHX instruction booklet with the Soviet military hardware in the back actually helped prepare me for high performance in armor ID class in the military (!). Of course, the hardest part of that class was differentiating thermal signatures and night vision signatures... but anyways...I never bought F22 but I heard it was good, but at the time didnít want the SECOND best performing flight sim on the Genesis. Did I miss out on a hidden gem?

And whoever dreamed up the Libya and Ukraine scenarios was really on point; 2 out of 3 ainít bad! (Going back to Vietnam was just wacky) Weíre talking precognition on a Tom Clancy GHOST RECON level.

That's awesome! I love it when video games help us with real-world knowledge. It was a trip when, as teenagers, a few of my friends and I developed a working familiarity with a narrow period of Chinese history thanks to the Romance of the Three Kingdoms games. And I know a bunch of people who have learned the rules of sports by playing the video game version first.

Military prep via a 16-bit cart? Your story would have been an advertising dream for Electronic Arts!

Heh, good point. Plenty of games get it wrong, with elaborate full-scale operations in places like "South America" (!) or Indonesia (looking at you, Air Cavalry on SNES), so it's worth noting when one gets it mostly right.

F-22 is basically Ace Combat on Genesis. If you like Ace Combat ps1 installments gameplay, you will like this one.

Now speaking of F-117, it's a shame that we got this crap instead of a port of Microprose PC masterpiece. It should be easy to port anyway, since F-15 is already done on the Genesis using the same engine.
