No sadly, they were busy on Double Switch. Double Switched also worked their magic on my Pal Mega Drive and Pal Saturn too before modded took over for my XBox PS2

Well, I am really chuffed today! I bagged all this bundle in a mega bargain on eBay so very happy !!!!

Not 1 rare Dev CD Unit but 3!! Yeah, I know the PC SCSI and other PC boards are missing but makes a great display piece! Will try to get one working in as a standalone unit and prob sell the other 2 on.

This is nice to know 1 unit it was once originally owned by Sega!!!

eBay purchase delivered today totally trashed mainboard, I love a challenge but this is beyond worth even trying to repair as no idea what else the idiot forked! Why the F@ck do people do this crap to boards? If you don't know what you're doing don't try fixing it and leave it to somebody that does FFS!! Love the re-cap job too!

Would have had a go at repairing till I noticed the 2 lifted pins on IC2. I hate running wires all over the board as some twat has already done on this, would mean me having to lift IC2 to fix forked traces, Nah!!!

Those dev units look super slick! Jealous you were able to grab so many even if they have issues.

I was so lucky! The Dev units have not been butchered like the Mega-CD 1 I bought above, so hopefully ill get the other 2 of the 3 working :-) the one that powered up prob just needs a new Belt as not ejecting, that's a keeper as it once belonged to Sega! All will need a Mainboard re-cap! ill start a new post on the refurbs once I get time to pull them apart!

I've not posted anything for a while as been really busy with repairs! but had over the last few weeks I worked on all 3 Sega Mega CD Development units

Top Board is just a Megadrive with the 68000 removed

Under that is the SNASM Board, the Megadrive has Pins under the Board where the 68000 has been removed that slide into the Blue IC Socket on the SNASM Board

The SNASM Board then connects to the Mega CD Board via a connector under the SNASM Board that goes into where the 68000 has been removed and a Socket installed.

Re capped and new Battery installed, just need to replace the Bios

Then under all that is the bottom of the Case with extended posts to screw the Boards onto

So after a full refurb, these 2 are fully working standalone and ready for their new homes! One went to a collector in France and the other went to a buyer in the UK.

Now to refurb my personal Dev unit

After pulling apart noticed the Socket for the 68000 on the CD was damaged and looks like they used a blob of Solder to fix it

So removed the old Socket and replaced it with a nice new one

Chucked a 68000 in and board tested OK

Also had to replace one of the Switches on the front Pannel as it was loose and not going into position

Luckily I managed to locate a replacement that was virtually the same!

After installing the Switch, I managed to fix the old one as was just a bent Lever, O well new ones is already installed now lol

I replaced the CD Drive with one from an Export unit and installed a new Laser as I hate the US/JAP drives mech, so clunky and unreliable, and that Helix screw design is a joke!!

    Now reinstalling all the Boards

Now I have a fully working Tower of power with a big difference and a real keeper!!

Mechanically I would say the JVC on the Right is more reliable! I have a stack of faulty Drives that are from US and Jap CD's! Also, I find most of those drives when working have problems reading Backups! That's just my personal opinion after repairing a crapload of Mega CD's. Suppose you might have to tweak the Laser to read backups, but I never have to with the JVC Drives!
