    Default DOOM 32X Resurrection

A full recreation of Doom for the 32X based on the original Jaguar Doom source code release with a bulk of code taken from the Calico Doom port, created by Victor Luchitz (viicious) among others. He first posted about this here.

Ten months later, this has reached version 1.0 and is fully playable. It's not another hack or fix attempt for the original 32X version, it's much more than that and makes the 32X to finally have the Doom conversion it truly deserved back in 1994. It also deserves its own thread (viicious himself couldn't create it in the first place). Really, really recommended to try it.

    Yes!
Much respect and admiration for everyone involved but especially for Victor Luchitz who once came out of nowhere with this crazy idea of re-porting Doom to the 32X and actually pulled it off!

We are really, really fortunate to have so many incredibly passionate and capable people in the MD community.

I just came across this on YouTube, nice to see some familiar names behind this too.

I'll be downloading this for sure.

Anyone else having trouble applying the patch? I am using an NTSCU ROM ripped straight from my own cart and keep getting the checksum error. The patch is labelled as 'E' but the site is specific that it is region free. Delta patcher seems really slow on my PC so not sure if it's buggy or something...

EDIT - Patched my PAL ROM (also a direct cart rip of my own) and it worked! I assume that the region free thing refers to the ROM once patched. Amazing work, this is the version of DooM I'm going to nominate as the one I complete first!

This must surely be one of the best 32bit console versions out now, no? It's wondrous, and it really shows what can be done with the monstrous mushroom in the right hands. I can't wait to get this fired up on real apparatus.

This needs a side to side video to be able to realize the huge improvement of the thing.

    SEGA indie community is awesome.

The big credit has to go to Vic and Joseph (Chilly Willy). Weirdly Vic contacted me via my channel as he saw I'd published some videos around Joseph's work. I got the two communicating and then continued to help Vic test his code on real hardware for a fairly long period of time before he got his own 32x Initially I thought he was crackers and it was a lost cause but he showed some serious determination and has come up with an incredible port.

I'm not sure if everyone has seen Vic's other work but I got him to port the RoQ video codec to the 32x?

I wonder if DF Retro will do something like that. It's really worth it and I can't think anyone better to do it.

Sega Lord X has done a review in which there's a couple of side to side instances.

I tell you what would be nice (I'm waiting for the graoans here!)... A physical cart release!

Matt, that video thing is interesting, does it need a special flashcart like that MD CODEC?

You have to compile together the code and a RoQ file but other than that it does not require anything other than a standard flash cart. I know Joseph is keen on the idea of one day getting it running on CD32x to allow for way more space. Whether we ever see that tho is a completely different matter. Testing it would require a Mega SD and the expansion bus add on. One of which is out of stock and the other out of production.
