Default Opening japanese MD cart without ruining the label?

This is common knowledge in Japan, but I never found anything in English (maybe because US and Eu cartridge doesn't have this issue, also probably very few people are interested to change the save battery in a japanese-only rpg).

How do you open a Japanese cart without damaging the black and white label that cover the screws?

Try cutting the top of the cartridge open with a Dremel. If you're careful you can probably get in and have access to the button cell without damaging the label.

Some opening tool like the ones used to open smartphones.

It will be handy to know where the retaining plastic spring are, and how they clip in the cart, from what side.

And, a lot of patience of course.

Maybe you can end with some retaining clip broken. Mostly because you don't know exactly where to apply pressure, and also because the plastic loss his elasticity over time.

Yeah - not sure what the two previous replies were about

The screws are under the label (as I think the OP knows). There aren't clips like on a smartphone. The OP is asking how to remove the screws without damaging the back label. The answer is you have to remove the back label like this and then re-attach it. Care is required.

yeah for god's sake don't try to open any official MD/G cart without removing the screws first! it's like 98% have them and you WILL break the cart if you "unclip" it before unscrewing

    Ops. My bad.
I didn't even read the question correctly.
I was thinking about carts without screws.

I tried the hairdryer method in the past but it never worked fine for labels in general, never tried on a MD cart.
Of course no way I'm opening the cart without removing the screws first lol

I was looking for the same things they use in japanese retro shops, that leaves no sign. I'm not sure if they use repro brand new labels though.

I have been looking for japanese replacement labels in the past. No luck. At some point, once all the batteries have died, i think we have to fuck the back labels up. Unless by then someone sells replacement stickers. Wake me up when that happens.
