Cloud gaming is the future and MS is making a hard push to be at the top, while Google, Sony, Nvidia and the rest of the gang are still trying to figure out how to get in on the game.

You might want to brush up on Cloud Computing. Nvidia is using it to do deep learning and other services.

    GO team XBOX !!!

It's also laughable to see a PC gamer moan about the Cloud when so many PC gamers are now only online only. So spare us on the digital front, when so many PC games are only available digitally & you more than most enjoy digital gaming.

Dude, you're being an idiot. MS didn't get into console gaming, just to make games. It's been a long focused ride to make a box to provide digital services for everything. And it most certainly isn't about PCs either. Those are so small, compared to the real plan.

The deal, which was announced a week after Take-Two Interactive Software Inc.'s proposed offer for Zynga Inc., would significantly bolster Microsoft's portfolio with Activision's valuable gaming intellectual property, allowing the software giant to target a wider range of gamers across all platforms, analysts said.
At the forefront of Microsoft's gaming strategy is its Game Pass subscription service, which gives members access to a revolving slate of games from a wide variety of developers, including Electronic Arts Inc. The games can be downloaded onto Xbox consoles and Windows PCs or streamed via the cloud on those devices. Game Pass also supports Android smartphones and tablets.

However, the primary selling point of the service is that it offers first-party games developed by Microsoft's internal studios on the day of their commercial launch. Upon close of the acquisition, Microsoft will include Activision's games in Game Pass, which now has more than 25 million subscribers, Spencer said in a statement.

The addition of Activision's games to Game Pass will continue Microsoft's goal to establish an all-encompassing, cross-device games ecosystem, said Jijiashvili.

While Microsoft will remain committed to its Xbox console business as its main focus for at least the first half of this decade, we will likely see higher prioritization of cloud and subscriptions towards the second half," Jijiashvili said.

While Game Pass' availability on mobile is a good start, it is not where most of Microsoft's games were made to be played, said Neil Barbour, an analyst for Kagan, a media research group within S&P Global Market Intelligence.

"The long-term goal here is to make Game Pass a streaming service available on connected TVs," Barbour said. "When it's available on all major platforms such as Roku and Android TV, then Microsoft can say gaming is for everyone."

A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

It's called facts mate, don't take my words for it take it from the boss of Xbox

As we extend the joy and community of gaming to everyone, we are incredibly excited to welcome the fantastic teams and iconic franchises of Activision Blizzard to Team Xbox

You use Gamepass just as much as I do and many new PC titles don't even have physical releases these days.

Then don't take our word for it, take it from David Rosen, the co-founder of Sega.

No, you stupid idiotic knuckle draggin' fanboy. MS did not purchase Activision for XBOX. Their goal is much bigger than a shitty Xbox, or shitty PC. They want to dominate EVERYTHING. They want to be your television content provider (look at the launch of Xbox One), your internet content provider and your gaming service provider. Xbox is chump change for $2 trillion company. Go look at what companies like Google (Google Stadia and Youtube} Sony (PS now and PS+) and Amazon (Amazon prime services) are doing. They want a much bigger piece of the pie.

MS goal since the OG Xbox was to be the center of the living room all in one entertainment device. That was their message then and always has been. MS was trying with the Windows Media PC. Zune. Mid-2000s OEM PCs started being bundled with Windows XP media edition.

    Life?!...What console is that on?

Can't wait for Windows 10 Windows Media Center Edition Home Edition.

Maybe we would just abandon electronics and go outside. Maybe it's not so bad after all.

You won't have to worry about that. Skynet will take us all out, once they flip the switch.

But to be fair isn't that what a lot of big tech companies have tried to accomplish? Remove the proprietary hardware and create a service you can stream? I get the feeling that Microsoft doesn't really care what platform you play on, they might offer to put GamePass on PlayStation sometime in the near future. They just want to get paid when people play games, many of which will be on their service because they own it. I kinda don't think that means those games won't be elsewhere, but they're still going to get royalties. They want to be the Disney of gaming. They'll only offer the Xbox console for as long as people continue to buy it, but eventually Xbox will just be something you stream from your TV. Same strategy as everyone else though; you may or may not need a GamePass sub on other devices to access the Microsoft library.

Yeah and Sony is testing the waters by putting their games out on PC. Meanwhile Nintendo will be Nintendo and just stay the course.

LOL I have't posted here much recently, but it makes me laugh to see that TA is still being an ignorant, boneheaded dumbass.

But back on topic, my opinion is that assuming this transaction goes through without any issues with antitrust/monopoly issues, then the next couple of years are going to be very interesting in the game industry. I suspect that both Amazon and possibly Google will be closely watching what happens with it and, if it is allowed then they will also start to make acquisitions of the same scale. I believe that Amazon will want to compete with their Luna platform and might start making a move on the likes of EA.
I believe even Sony themselves may end up a target, especially when you have giants with trillion dollar market caps moving in on their turf.
As for consoles they will be dead within the next 10 years, both Playstation and Xbox will transition to subscription service apps that download to a streaming stick, tablet or phone. Modern consoles suck anyway, overpriced, dumbed down PCs with gimped features - good riddence IMO. I don't give a shit about modern games either, mostly sequels and 4K remakes - bleeehh

What sort of childish rant is that LOL. You may not like it or agree with it, but log into Gamepass on the PC, the Mobile, whatever and see the 'Xbox' logo used not the windows, Xbox is now integrated into Windows 11 . Go to MS official site and see the MS gaming development teams come under the Xbox brand. It's all about Xbox and pushing Gamepass be that on PC, Console or Mobile. When MS buys a new gaming studio it's welcome the 'Xbox' family, when MS does a show to show off its new studios its Xbox & Bethesda showcase Ect

The old wind-ups and the days of Xbox having no IP's, no developers, selling its Xbox division, Satya Nadella has no interest in the gaming division Ect, Ect are long gone; The PS fans on social media and forums had their moment and fun in the sun, but they in-part helped to create a monster, with Xbox now having over 30 In-House game studios and they're still not finished yet..

Great time to be an Xbox fan and Gamepass gamer.
