We've been getting a good amount of snow here lately, and on a day where we got particularly more than other days, I thought it would be a good time to go thrifting. I was hoping the Goodwill Bargain Bin wouldn't be swamped with resellers considering the weather, and it turned out I was right. It was kind of crazy that the four people who have literally been there every single time I have (regardless of whether it was 10 a.m. or 7 p.m.) the last six years were not there. It was actually kind of dead. I ended up finding these at the bin (not the cat - he was already mine):

I expressed some concern over the PS3 not working while checking out, and the cashier ended up giving it to me for $4.05. Jump Force was $0.15. I never really had any interest in that game, but I figured it was an actual game that could be enjoyable for a low price. Disc is in good shape too. I opened up the PS3 not really knowing what to expect, and everything looked really clean - there was hardly even any dust in it. I powered it up, and it worked just fine. Even had a copy of Soul Calibur IV in it. I've been wanting another PS3 because I don't really trust them and am not sure when mine will crap out.

Next, I decided to go next door to the main store and found this:

It was $7 and marked as an electronic device, which means I had a week to return it if it didn't work. It ended up working just fine though!

That's it. Probably won't find anything decent for the rest of the year.

Windexs the crap out of that controller! It looks like it was laying in a pile of dirt!

I decided to drop by a Game X-Change in Texarkana, while I was up there doing work today. I picked up all of this while I was there. The Crimson Skies game is for a friend.

A Black Falcon: no, computer games and video games are NOT the same thing. Video games are on consoles, computer games are on PC. The two kinds of games are different, and have significantly different design styles, distribution methods, and game genre selections. Computer gaming and console (video) gaming are NOT the same thing."

Predator on 4K UHD is awesome. By far the best home video presentation of it that we have gotten. And sadly I can't say the same about some other 4k releases of classics that I've seen. Enjoy the eff out of it, it's glorious.

Some of this is Birthday stuff. The rug is part of the haul. Zone of the Enders hat. The PS4 game is Megaton Musashi which is a mecha action game.

Everything looks great, except Battle Monsters. Who convinced you to buy that Leynos?

I recently came across an incredibly clean GBC and rigged it up with a backlit screen this week. No real modding, just a screen swap. We've got a vacation coming up next month, and I like having a little handheld that fits in my pocket instead of something big like the switch. The lack of a backlight made it so hard to see with the GBC though, much worse than my GB Pocket. So I looked into the screen thing, and I'm pleased with how it turned out.

Of the other stuff I've picked up this month, the custom rotary jag controller takes Tempest 2K to the next level. Seriously, it plays so much better with the rotary dial. I found one of those old wooden cassette cases from the 90s, and it fits my Jag games perfectly. It fits Genesis carts too, for the record, but not 32x. Hexen's complete and the price was right. I'm partial to those mid-90s fps games, and never played this one before.

The other controller is a wireless pad for the PS2. It's by Retro Fighters or Brawlers, and I picked up a similar one for the 64 last year, and loved it, so when I saw they came out with one for PS2, I ordered it right away. I keep my ps2 hooked up on my main tv downstairs, and have one of those long extension wires for the controller, and the baby is always chewing on it. Ha! So I've wanted a wireless pad for a while, but there aren't many out there, and most are kind of janky. This one is really nice though.

Dave Halverson (at Gamefan) gushed about the fighting game, so I picked up the North American version. He must have been on drugs that day, because it was anything but a good game. It’s all digitized fighters with very few frames of animation. The game was just choppy as hell.

HAHA! I just played it. Yeah, it's not good but it made me laugh. That era of games with digitized sprites. Sonic and Mortal Kombat gave us a bunch of shitty clones of those games. I dunno I kinda like having it as Eternal Champions. That time period of chasing Mortal Kombat and maybe only Killer Instinct did it right.

Battle Monsters is awesome for all the wrong reasons. Gunmetal and Chrome Hounds, sweet. XG3 and Kenitica, also sweet. Zen-like racing at it's finest. Makes me wonder why I've never tried any of the modern Wipeout or Redout games.

Got myself another new toy recently. One of these modern consoles; a newfangled Panasonic "C3PO" or something to that effect. Apparently it's "REAL" and not just a simulation like most video games. So in a lot of ways, I feel like a jackass having bought a PS5 when there's THIS thing. But seriously, Crash n Burn and Blade Force both exceeded my expectations. Haven't tried Stellar 7 yet, but it looks cool.

Spec Ops the Line is a deceptively good shooter/adventure that I overlooked probably a million times as a generic military shooter, until a friend of mine kept raving about how good it actually was. Crash Time is a generic/budget Burnout 3 clone, or perhaps more of a modernized Runabout? Blood Stone was Bizarre Creations last game unfortunately, great studio RIP. Battlefield Hardline is not a Battlefield game, it's a cop-drama FPS. With NFS Rivals I can finally say that I have all of the games now, I forgot about this one. Hour of Victory IS a generic shooter. It was Midway's attempt to cash in on a trend; it's not Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, or Battlefield it's just... Hour of Victory, and that's kind of what piqued my interest. Gameplay reminded me of some no-frills old school FPS action, so why not. To me Midway always put out solid games, RIP once again.

    Ms. Pac-Man

I always wanted a 3DO, just never jumped at the chances I had to get one. The games were uber cheap about a decade ago.

I kind of wish that I hadn’t traded in Battle Monsters (traded it in to pay for the DC at launch). It’s so bad, that it’s good, just for the laugh at what you’re seeing. It’s sort of like all of those cheesy monsters you see going against Godzilla in the black and white films.

Likely be the last one of these bigger hauls for a while. Likely just see a couple of games from me for some time. I almost bought Darius Gaiden on Saturn but for the same price I got the collection Switch with several games including Gaiden.

Step by literal step, someone explain how you get pictures to appear in your posts. For some reason it is a crap shoot for me just on this website. I've built computers but a damned website won't allow me to post pics!
