Well, to each their own. You can't tell someone they're wrong for having different tastes, much as the internet may try.

I mean hell, here I am posting in a thread for a game in this pencil neck geek genre

If you can't get into a game, don't force yourself.

My daughter has made RPGs with better writing on her 3DS in RPG Maker Studio!
oh did your daughter do that in about 1989, when RPG character interaction/etc standards were widely different? or is this maybe taking something 30+ years later out of context?

i too wish we'd seen more dialogue with the cast, but that wasn't where it was at then - i personally didn't notice more of it until about FFIV

there's still not much out there that hits the dystopian notes of this gem

Ok, you're not wrong about my daughter making RPG's 30 years later. HOWEVER, I will submit to you Phantasy Star I and II as examples of good writing that came before PS III. :-)

Actually I played your daughter's RPGs and I still kind of hate them.

PSIII was great for an early 16-bit RPG. Great story, especially compared to its contemporaries.

Well, what can I say? A true Sega classic that further cemented the tropes associated with its main J-RPG saga: Intricate, cute-looking (yet quite serious in tone) and containing a memorable soundtrack. Not as innovative as its predecessor, but as much as well regarded.
