My brother picked this up for $3 CIB today at Goodwill for me...and I know Ken's got quite an eye for games. Gotta check this one out then! So this is basically a platformer then?

This is quite a good platformer but must be played very slowly. I couldn't beat it because the 6th level boss gave me visibility problems (bullets lost in the bg), but that's a frequent problem for me so not particulalry indicative for anyone else. If you try to play it quickly, or even at a natural pace it will be immensely difficult. The first step is to learn to use your dragons; the little solar one is pretty odd, maybe the booklet will explain something I missed, but they're generally helpful contrary what most people say.

I've always enjoyed Alisia Dragoon but had no idea it was so unheard of until now.

I had heard this one hyped up by a few folks a few years ago, didn't play it and wrote it off as people raising a big fuss over nothing. Flash forward to years later, I go game hunting, see this cart in a shop and completely pass it by. I come home and a little voice in my head told me "hey fire up Alisia Dragoon and see what the little bit of hype was all about". I put in a rom of it in an emulator and holy balls was I pleasantly surprised and ashamed I just passed it by as some anime girl generic game. Needless to say I almost forgot which of the 3 game shops I saw it at and hoped and prayed that it was still there, thankfully it was.

So $8 later, I had my own copy of Alisia Dragoon and haven't regretted it since, I love pleasant surprises like this.

GameArts + GAINEX, what's not to like?

Yeah I wasn't too aware of how good those devs were at the time, I learned a bit that day to give the little guy a chance.

As for beating this one, I tend not to practice on a game for too long these days (lack of time and all), but I guarantee you I suck at it from what I've played of it. ;D

Good game, the levels get better as you go and there is some nice tracks accompanying them as well. Alisia Dragoon is geared around moving forward carefully to avoid hits and let your special charge.

Games biggest flaw is that it randomly forces you into the crouch animation when you land from a jump sometimes.

Really hard in the latest levels but such a good game. Though, some respawning enemies are quite annoying.
Did you realize that the japanese cover is way much better than the american release??

I disagree. I think the American release cover is much cooler.
I think this is one of those games I need to learn how to beat every try...like Bram Stoker's Dracula and other hard games. The last levels are so hard to figure out though. I've beaten it, but it's too hard to beat even every other try...

I like both covers. They each excel at a different style.

I love this game. I only played it for the first time a couple of years ago, but it didn't take long to become a favorite. Everything about it is pretty much top-notch. This is one of the rare titles in which I've taken the time to seek out every secret and can complete it with 100% of the power-ups and collectibles.

I can get to the last stage without too much difficulty every time I play, but the final boss really trips me up when I'm even the slightest bit out of practice. Even knowing what to do, you really have to be on your toes.

I know I didn't beat it without codes. The 6th stage, I think, was the one that gave me the hardest time. The one that's at an angle, and enemies appear to the right, where you try hitting them at an upward slant.

Nah, I'm not that good. Plus there's nothing I know that isn't already on YouTube or GameFAQs.

I do want to say something about the "sun" pet, though, since some seem to be perplexed by it; it does have a use. Obviously it only does damage by touching things directly, but it can be very crucial to have in spots where the other pets die quickly from certain elements and bosses. It takes damage at a far, far slower clip than the other pets (its "charge" meter has to be completely depleted to drain any of its HP), so you can use it in hellish situations with it remaining mostly unscathed. It can also function as a shield of sorts and can kill the first boss very quickly if it's fully upgraded.
