    Default Gunstar Heroes

If there's one thing clearly understood about owning a Sega Genesis, it's that Gunstar Heroes must be a part of your library. Say what you will about Treasure and how they're overrated, untalented, etc; but you cannot deny that this is easily their finest hour on the system and arguably their best game overall.

it took me a while to get into this game...i still prefer contra but once I 'figured it out' the gameplay of Gunstar Heroes became more intuitive to me. I guess it also helped when I figured out how to pick up powerups. The inability to switch from free run shooting and 8 direction shooting frustrated me a bit (I ended up sticking with free run). Not the game's fault since the genny only had the 3 button controller at the time.

Grabbing bombs and enemies and throwing them was immensely fun. Being able to jump off walls and combine two weapons at a time also keeps things interesting. I kind of wonder how any can manage to beat the game without having one of the weapons be a homing attack though especially against the last boss.

I've tried this game numerous times and I've never got on with it. Despite it's technical achievements I don't find it fun to play. The control feels somewhat clumsy and the game requires far more memorization that I'm prepared to endure. I also find the sound design grates on my ears. Also the level design is disjointed and I hate the dice rolling crap. Despite their technical prowess I don't really like any of Treasure's game with the exception of Sin and Punishment. I'd give it a 6.

Gunstar Heroes is my favorite Genesis game hands down! I like run n gun games, Hard Corps is a close second, along with Mercs, not very into the top down view.

I like what i have seen of it although i have to admit i have not actually got very far, there are some really interesting sections on the game and the use of some interesting effects so in the future i plan to sit down with it for a week or so and see if i can reach the end.

This game is very impressive. I remember thinking how colorful it was and how nice the explosions looked when I first played it. Then I was shocked to find out this game is only 8 MEGS.

    Awesome two player game.

    10/10

The single player mode is not bad, But 2 P is truly where it's at.

Am I mistaken in recalling that Treasure Land Adventure started development before Gunstar Heroes, and that it was the McDonald's license funding which enabled Gunstar development to proceed?

I actually read the same thing years ago. That's not exactly common knowledge though, and I assume that she based her statement on the release dates of said games.

Great game, a bit overrated as a game in and of itself though IMO.

There's no way it beats out Alien Soldier in the end.

Multiplayer, better level design, better soundtrack, Raul Julia. Gunstar Heroes wins.

Love this game, except for the dice mini game.
