    Default Street Racer

Street Racer appeared on several formats in 1995. The goal when creating this game appeared to be to produce a racer that didn't just involve using the cars to race, and while this doesn't make for an exactly unique experience, it certainly made for a refreshing alternative for all the racing game players out there.

That U.S box art can't be right.......must be a re-working of the Saturn version's (which DID come out in the U.S along with the PS1 version) box art, given the silver Sega "Seal Of Quality" logo.

Anyways, the Genesis version of SR was an impressive effort, and is amongst the very few Genesis games with genuine scaling (the road that is, not the objects). Still, the scaling isn't as complex as the SNES version's Mode 7, and so all of the tracks have been changed drastically. Though one gripe I had about the SNES version is that you could barely see the road ahead of you due to the Mode-7 scaling being so flat.

You can always download the ROM, set your emulator to US and see if it works .

I have this for the Saturn and PS1. It's like an early Crash Team Racing and quite fun I suppose.

I could've commented before but it will play fine on NTSC consoles, I just got a copy and have been playing it, it's pretty mediocre though.

It may not look as good as the SNES version and its fancy 7 scaling, but it played the same, and it was pretty much. Funny as heck - both solo and with a companion -, includes a couple of nice minigames (love the footie one), sounds good (Furniss and Hollingsworth are a guarantee) and definitely launched Ubi Soft into the console world, so it may even hold some historic value.
