    Default Eternal Champions

Eternal Champions is what I would call a "technical fighter", in that there is FAR more depth than you may at first appreciate. There is, for example, a full training suite wherein you can pick death traps and obstacles from a large list, and drop them in to make the level more...interesting.

I am so happy I have this game in my collection. It is a wonderful piece of software that everyone should take a look at. The characters are memorable, the sprites are detailed, and the backround are imaginative.

Two things I think they could have done better would be

    1. Adjust the battle clock to go slower

    2. A small fix to the collision detection

Other than that it was great.

I've been meaning to play this more but the generic character gallery really holds it back, can't get anyone to play it with me :P

Alrighty, So I popped it in my Model 1 yesterday and I must admit that the graphics hold up. The sprites are bright and well animated, the back grounds are interesting, and the music is OK.

The difficulty though is a hit or miss. The first person I played with was Larcen and I breezed through the game with no problem what so ever until I got to the Eternal Champion.

The Second time I played it was with Trident and I got my ass handed to me at the first opponent.

The third time I played as Larcen again and Shadow ended me in the second round.

Now here is my question. Is there a difficulty setting in the game other than in practice / battle room mode?

Right when you turn on the game you can access the options menu but the only things that are in there are music tests, controller configuration, and Game Speed.

Is "game speed" code for difficulty

Because I noticed a heightened level of challenge after I put it to overdrive but ironically no change in the speed of the game at all. I'm just puzzled why the developers forgot a difficulty option, but I guess I'm just knit picking.

I was playing Eternal Champions this morning. One of my favs. Trident is my guy. I use the stun fireball and then drill the opponent with my X-Y-Z attack to take off half health. Only works if you have a full special meter so you have to make sure that you connect with that fireball.

As much as i love Eternal Champions i feel the difficulty setting was through the roof,
and apparently i'm not the only who felt that way since the difficulty was toned down in the Sega CD version. (though not much)

Great looking game, great music, great idea, but too difficult.

Eternal Champions isn't all that hard once you get the hang of it (and use a good character) until the final boss, which is a PITA just about all the time.

EC was too hard. It's the hardest fighter I own, and I own a lot fighters.
    EC2 was better.

I hated how the game PUNISHED you when you lost and it would make you fight the previous fighter again.

And I still stand by my previous post where i said that the game is much too hard,
I really tried to learn how to use a character to its fullest (RAX) but the computer just.. cheats!
its constantly blocking and countering you, its frustrating.

the learning curve is way too high.

And the computer uses inner strength at a much slower rate than the player but it regains it at a faster rate than the player.

The computer uses special moves even when it's bar is out, lol.

Eternal Champions for Sega CD basically fixed all of the problems of the original games, added a TON of new stuff, only at the price of crappier music.

Yes, but I like the challenge. Some games like MKII you can beat the game by exploiting a lot of glitches. In EC there is only one glitch I know of and that it when fighting Blade.
