    Sad Action 52

Normally, a compilation of games is a good thing. The two stellar volumes of the Capcom Classics Collection and the awesome Taito Legends are perfect examples of how to make a set of great games. There's a reason for that, though - the games are a blast to play. Action 52, on the other hand, is a textbook example of how to make the opposite of the sets I just mentioned. The games are laughable, and not a single one is memorable. Even the "best" of the set, Cheetahmen, has been neutered. Read our full review for all the details on this plastic doorstop. And remember, we warned you about this one four years ago.

Wow another one of those games that slipped out of my sight! I just can't believe I've never seen this game at any Babbages, Software Etc. or Play Co. in my area!

It slipped by because it cost $199 retail and no retailer would pick it up leaving Active to sell it through magazines and mail order only.

OMG I just picked up this pile of crap yesterday! I would've been pissed if I paid more than 10 bucks for it. All the games look and feel the same, running on %99 of the same code I'm sure and even the sound effects are shared on most of them! I bought it hoping it would be full of "real" bootleg games like my Famicom 32 in 1 cart... damn I was wrong.

    Yay for mash-ups!

    Even better.

    Just plain jawusum.

The Japanese sure love their Cheetahmen music.

Thanks Rusty for sharing that, you gotta love how Active figures out how to make one of the catchier themes out there for a game that's an utter piece of trash otherwise.

That theme is Capcom/Konami caliber catchy/memorable.

Nice little write up. I believe the reviewer, but looking at the screen shots makes me really really want to try this one out just to make sure it sucks. The screen shots look like a bunch of fun games to me. I'm sure they suck but I just gotta make sure.

Nice review, but it didn't mention what I consider to be one of the main problems with these games - the controls! Although I think they're a bit better than the NES version.

LOL! Wow seriously!? That's insane! I would've never paid that much $$$ back then. Was it ever reviewed by Game Pro or EGM?

Other than small back of the magazine advertisements, I don't think this game got much coverage at all let alone reviews.

Dirt Ball Gamer, go ahead and try Action out but don't say I didn't warn you.

I don't believe it was ever officially reviewed by EGM or Gamepro.

Here's a website about Active Enterprises that you might find interesting (granted its about the NES version): http://www.atarihq.com/tsr/special/active.html

Frankly, giving this game a 3 is about 160 points too high. But it's not the reviewer's fault.

i have the action 52 and when i got it it was comparable to the time to one of those shareware games cdroms you could buy for $5 for my 386

a lot of games that all felt unfinished unpolished but seemed to look ok while on pause

make sure and visit my album
