The FMV deluge continues! The 32X version of Sega’s Fahrenheit came bundled with the regular Sega CD game. The difference? Better video quality! Unfortunately, it’s the same game otherwise. On-rails FMV shooters pop up every now and then, but the only difference between them is usually the quality of the video. As consoles progess in power and features, this particular genre never really seems to go anywhere. Perhaps that’s why they’re still not a lot of fun to play, even after so many years. Take Absolute Entertainment’s A/X-101 for the Sega CD, for instance. Grainy video, dull enemies, and some bland gameplay are everything you’d expect going in, and at least in this regard, the game doesn’t disappoint. Too bad that’s the only expectation it will ever meet. Read our full review and then go play some Android Assault to make the hurt go away.
Billiards is a much loved game in the United States. Unfortunately, most Americans are unfamiliar with the game snooker (read more about it here), something our friends in England greatly enjoy. There was even a PAL Mega Drive release that understandably never came stateside, and it’s actually very good.
Long believed to be a bootleg, Yang Jia Jiang (known as Yang Warrior Family outside of China), is most likely a legitimate, unlicensed release. Details on the game’s development and distribution are scarce, as they are with most Chinese Mega Drive titles, but we can at least still review it for public consumption. Read our full review and see if this one is worth hunting down. Be warned though; there are a ton of pirate versions that are not the same, so care is needed to find an original copy.
There are plenty of racing games on the Genesis, and thanfully, you’ll find one much better than Lotus Turbo Challenge. Not as impressive as either its predecessor or sequel, it is the stereotypical middle child. Bland visuals and audio mix with a brutal difficulty to create one game that makes you thankful you have OutRun. Don’t believe us? Read our full review, and make tracks to a better racer.
