Taking the famous hedgehog out of the side-scrolling world and tossing him into a pinball environment, Sonic Spinball was a decidedly western spin (ha!) on Sega’s flagship franchise. Sonic fans still debate its quality today, and it remains one of the most controversial 16-bit games in the series.
After the release of a few titles such as Altered Beast, Sega decided to bring the Kidd back for another try. Did it work? Was it able to reproduce the fantastic charm of the original or did it flop like the abominable Alex Kidd in High-Tech World?
Working Designs led the RPG charge by releasing four awesome games. Popful Mail was an incredible side scrolling action/RPG that needs to be re-released and Vay, though frustrating with its random battles, was a neat little romp with one of the first character deaths on console (Phantasy Star II beat them to it). Their greatest achievements, without a doubt, have to be the two Lunar games.
Welcome to Wayne’s World the crappy side scrolling platform game for the Mega Drive/Genesis. This is a game that not only disgraces the name of Wayne’s World, it is quite frankly another of the most terrible games I have ever played.
Even cute girls in school uniforms can kick ass, as evidenced by Ma-Ba’s Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon, a side-scrolling beat-’em-up based on the hit cartoon. How does it fare next to other entries in the genre? Read the full review to find out!
