Everyone who likes Japanese animation knows of Mazinger Z. The classic series has been cultivating a fanbase for almost four decades, and there has been everything from toys to video games based on the character. The Genesis got something of a “remixed” version of Mazinger Z in Vic Tokai’s Mazin Saga: Mutant Fighter, a re-imagined telling of the mythos through some side-scrolling beat-’em-up action and a few stiff fighting scenes.

2008 European Mega Drive Championship
It’s been exactly twenty years since the Genesis was officially discontinued, but its rabid fanbase refuses to give up the ghost! In addition to games still being released, fans in Europe have organized a yearly tournament that now includes almost two dozen titles. The Mega Drive Championships are where gamers play for keeps, and this year’s European tournament featured competitors from three different countries.
