The Shadow of the Beast series saw two of its three games released on the Genesis, and now developer Heavy Spectrum is bringing it back on the Playstation 4. The Genesis enjoyed an ample supply of Amiga ports, and among them was the notoriously hard Shadow of the Beast – the beast being the game’s difficulty, and the shadow representing where most gamers who played it ended up residing. The sequel was a bit more user-friendly, but the challenge was still rock solid. Take a deep breath and read our full review. Recognized by Genesis fans as one of the hardest action/platformers of all time, Shadow of the Beast reportedly owes its notorious difficulty to a higher refresh rate that made it run almost 20% faster than it should have. Lots of game pads lost their lives taking on this incredibly hard game, but there are those gamers out there who had the patience (and the extra controllers) to actually play through to the end.
