Football season may be over, but it’s always Sunday on the Genesis! Madden ’93 continued EA’s steady evolution of its gridiron juggernaut with the 1993 installment, and it offers a great time for anyone wanting to play armchair quarterback for a while. Grab some chips and a cold one and get ready for some football!
Genesis Reviews
Klax (Mega Drive)
Namco released a version of Klax that was a bit different from Tengen’s, with better sound and a true two-player mode, making it much more faithful to the arcade original. It only came out in Japan but should be obtainable for those puzzle fans looking for the optimal Klax experience. The ’90s may be over, but there’s still time for Klax.
Bugs Bunny in Double Trouble
Bugs Bunny has something of a bad record when it comes to video game appearances. He’s certainly no Mickey Mouse. The trend of bad releases continued on the Genesis with Double Trouble, a game that suffers from frustrating level design and brutal difficulty. The developers definitely should have taken that left turn at Albuquerque.
College Football’s National Championship II
Have you played the first edition of Sega’s College Football’s National Championship? If so, you don’t have much reason to play the sequel. There’s little that’s new to it, and the fabled Sports Talk feature is gone. What remains is a lukewarm follow-up to what was a great college sports title.
Power Drive
Rally racing is an underrepresented sub-genre on most consoles, but many people are surprised to know that there are rally games on the Genesis. Power Drive is one of the better examples, presenting a solid package of visuals and gameplay. Fans would do well to give this European import title a try.
