After five quiet months, White Ninja Studio has issued an update on the state of its Genesis shmup that included a five-stage demo. While it doesn’t have a publisher, Irena: Genesis Metal Fury is close to completion. We went hands-on with the demo and liked what we played. Hopefully, this game will find a home and finally see release.
Neofid Studios is back with another title! This time, the group is bringing us a steampunk-themed shmup that’s also going to see release on the SNES and Neo Geo. The game has already been funded and smashed through all its stretch goals on Kickstarter, and if their previous work is any indication, we’re in for a real treat!
Brazilian developer Versão LTDA is bringing us an incredible new action/platformer called Sword of the Apocalypse. Slated for a mid-2026 release, the game focuses on exploration. While Sega went in several directions with Altered Beast, fans have taken it upon themselves to provide a direct sequel to the arcade classic. Fabianodigital has released an alpha demo of the first level of his sequel, and the results are promising, even at this early stage. It looks like we’re getting another Genesis side-scroller for our Genesis!
